Scott Foster Rocks!

Kudos to a former WMU guy from a UND fan.

From the Brad Schlossman blog at UNDhockey.AreaVoices.com

There was quite a story in the Chicago Blackhawks game tonight.

Former Western Michigan goalie Scott Foster, now a 36-year-old accountant, serves as the emergency third goaltender for some games for the Blackhawks. He sits in the press box.

But Chicago’s starting goalie, Anton Forsberg, suffered a pregame injury, meaning that Foster actually had to dress as the backup. Then, goalie Collin Delia, a former Merrimack netminder who made his NHL debut started in place of Forsberg, had to leave the game in the third period because of cramps.

So, Foster, who spent all day in an office as an accountant, suddenly had to come in and actually play.

He stopped all seven shots he faced, was named the game’s first star, and Chicago beat the Winnipeg Jets.

"... on a 10-key ... "

"Put your helmet on."

This is why hockey is great.

Re: Scott Foster Rocks!

Always love this story when it pops up.

I've always thought a good fan promotion would be to have a contest to be the emergency goalie. Maybe a YouTube video contest or something.

Skate with the team, your own jersey, a framed signed NHL contract, and you never know, you might get called in.

Re: Scott Foster Rocks!

Curious, if you have to sign the ATO contract and suit up, how much do you get paid for that single game appearance?

Re: Scott Foster Rocks!

Almost nothing. I thought it was like $200 so something like that.

Usually players pass the helmet and empty their wallets for the guy.

He probably won't have to buy a drink or a steak for a while either.

Re: Scott Foster Rocks!

The experience for Mr. Foster was worth well more than the $200 they paid him. He's not complaining, I guarantee you that.

Of course. Someone asked how much, tht's how much I remember. The pay is irrelevant to what happened, I agree.
