Fitchburg draws first blood on a shorty breakaway.
And that's it for the first period

Salem 0
Fitchburg 1
SOG 13-3 Salem

I think the Fitchburg shots have been on an odd man breaks. The goal was pretty, faked the forehand and drew LaCour out and tucked the backhand into the empty cage.

Fitchburg has always had trouble with Salem's defense. It's always frustrating to see how little success the Falcons seem to have getting shots on goal. Leiser continues to be solid in net for Fitchburg.

As for McAleer's goal: It's the sixth shorthanded goal of the season for the Falcons, tying them with Nichols for most in the nation.

And the FRA-WOR game? It's over now, and Framingham won 3-2.

Most of Salem's shots have been long range, right?

Oh could you explain the new icing rule to the play by play guy? He thinks it is touch up.

Make that 7 shorthanded goals. Turnover at the Salem blue and Quinn went tweeners.

The curse of "other teams receiving votes" continues for the Vikings.

Quinn and it's 3-1 Fitchburg at the end of 2.

On the last goal the puck was bombed just wide of the Salem net, rebounded nicely off the back boards right to an unmarked Quinn who had an empty net to shoot at.

I'm watching from home, so I will next time I see him. For now, hoping that nobody scores on a delayed penalty (that will be awkward).

I was going to make the same joke about the time of the goal :D. Didn't Salem dodge a bullet against Plymouth last week? Regardless, huge break for the Falcons; who are looking for their first home win against Salem in a long time (it's been at least ten years).

Fitchburg State defeats Salem State 5-3

Dan Smolinsky made it 4-3 with 2:05 left, but Justin Quinn completed the hat trick about a minute later. The game was chippy late, with Mike Genovese and Chris Costigan (in his return to Fitchburg) receiving misconducts. The box score will look interesting after this one.

Fitchburg State improves to 11-4 (5-3 MASCAC), and will continue their three game homestand on Saturday against Westfield State. Salem State falls to 10-4-1 (5-3-1 MASCAC), and will travel to Framingham to take on the suddenly resurgent Rams on Saturday.
