RPI & Union @ Colgate & Cornell (2/2, 2/3)

Re: RPI & Union @ Colgate & Cornell (2/2, 2/3)

Cornell's been on a winning roll, but. The difference in the last few games has been that the Big Red have capitalized on the other teams' mistakes and they haven't capitalized on ours, of which there have been a fair number. Of course, Galajda is one reason. As much as I would like to, I don't think Cornell is quite as good as its record. As a pessimist, I keep fearing the other shoe will drop. I do think the team is really working hard and, contrary to the odds, has been rewarded.

You sure this one's in CNY? Haven't heard Shabby's declaration as such yet... :p

We don’t play at Starr Rink anymore. But Union wasn’t the only “snakebitten” team in our old digs. Brown was just as horrendous.

RPI gets bitten by snakes everywhere. :(

Not quite as good as their record? The pollsters apparently don't agree with that assessment. Cornell sits atop the D1 ranking at least in USCHO poll. Clarkson still sucks at #3. Hard to assume they are basing that strictly on the w's and l's. It is certainly nice to see some new faces in the top of the poll. Gets old seeing BU, BC, Harvard all getting the votes all the time (particularly when often their votes are based on their "potential" and not actually what they do on the ice). Once again the ECAC is leading the way. Certainly, if RPI can play 3 solid periods of hockey, they will give both Cornell and Colgate a good game. But no one should expect RPI to be able to come back, especially against Cornell, if they spot them 3 or 4 goals.

Western pollsters probably are. Obviously 40YBRF watches them a little more closely, and might be worried more about the "how" than the "how many". One thing's for sure, though: Any team can win on any given day in this league, so the USCHO polls are fairly meaningless; only the PWR will matter in a couple months.
