RPI @ UMass 10/11/19 - as we climb the first step

DrDemento

I Still bleed RPI Red
I suppose no one wanted to start this thread because of the difficulty of the team we are playing. Perhaps RB should not post the thread starting statistics until later on in the season? I fully expect our boys to have more confidence than the posters do. Let's get this season started and good luck to our team!!

Could someone add the "clarkson still sucks!" tag. The one with the "!".

Thanks to whomever did it last week.

When I saw no one started the thread I thought I had the wrong date! I will only attempt to start tomorrow if I am on a winning (or tie) streak. Not all that superstitious but just figure every little bit can help.

Re: RPI @ UMass 10/11/19 - as we climb the first step

Asking for an RPI win over the team that finished as national runner-up last season would be a tall order, indeed.

I do hope the score will be more respectable than the 6-1 smacking that UMass hung on RPI in Amherst last year.

Still, it was only two years ago that RPI opened its road schedule with a 1-1 tie against a very highly rated Ohio State team. Chase Perry (remember him?) made 56 saves in that game.

If the Engineers can manage to hold UMass to a tie tonight, I'll be well satisfied. If they can do so while allowing something fewer than 57 shots on goal, even better.

Hopefully Jenny is your only date. ;)

Actually it was she who reminded me of the game. She had asked if there was any free video for it or would I be needing her charge card as usual. i found two sites for video but neither seems free for us. The NESN feed would be free but our money grabbing Comcast provider is not listed as being able to provide it and neither is our Xfinity service. The other feed is the UMass site but they list it as a subscription service also. It is starting to look like the RPI-TV feed on YouTube that we receive for most home games is almost the only free one left. Truly wonder how many people make use of the pay sites and if the schools are making any money off of them? My guess is that the number who watch those feeds is getting smaller all the time.

I would be a bit disheartened if the result was not at least a bit closer. Although UMass is highly rated in the preseason polls, they have indeed lost some extremely highly regarded talent. And although anyone is replaceable, I think it will be difficult for them to do that in their first game (but then again, what do I know?) I agree with you that i would be more than satisfied with a tie and perhaps even with a closer loss than last year. But i would just like to see us not get blown out or pushed around. I think this season will come down to us keeping as many games as close as we can, holding down the scoring against us, and just trying to find a way each game to get that one extra goal. In spite of our own losses since last season, I think this team on paper (and from what i saw last week in the exhibition) is a bit more difficult to play against. Keeping fingers crossed!!

Re: RPI @ UMass 10/11/19 - as we climb the first step

scratches: DiGrande, Herrman, Marello, Bowman, Samec, Klee, Helsen

Re: RPI @ UMass 10/11/19 - as we climb the first step

RB: Do we know which of those scratches are of the healthy variety?

It was noted, I think at the golf game, that Helsen is injured and may miss the season. All the rest played last weekend. That's all I know.

Knew about Helsen and saw everyone else play but just was not sure if any of those had gotten hurt.

Re: RPI @ UMass 10/11/19 - as we climb the first step

The RPI women lost 2-0 to PSU this afternoon. If I counted correctly, they have one goal in five games.

That's if I counted the games correctly. Counting the goals was easy.

Re: RPI @ UMass 10/11/19 - as we climb the first step

Darn - did not know they were ready to drop the puck and have not started the video yet

Opposition I believe have scored 14 - not a good ratio:eek:

Samec surprises me because he wears an A on the road. So I suspect he is injured. Also Marrello seems like a probable injury. But it's speculation.

Re: RPI @ UMass 10/11/19 - as we climb the first step

I've got the game streaming on my computer using the Umass web site.
It is a couple of minutes behind, but that is how I will be following the game.
