I came across a member of the Omaha Lancers organization online and took the opportunity to ask him his thoughts on Xander Babich's game.

His reply:
"I know a lot about Xander- we were pleased to get him in the futures draft. Real good skater- plays with an edge and has an underrated offensive skill set. He's a super kid off the ice. Not blessed with a lot of size, he's going to take some time to physically mature and build on a slight frame. Looking forward to seeing him develop with the Chicago Mission 16s this season- his team will be in Pittsburgh for the fall classic and then Omaha in January for a showcase."

He then added another paragraph of info that comes as a surprise to me and probably to you guys too:
"We have another RPI recruit who will be on our team this year- 01 LD Dylan Davies. He's a big-bodied, mobile defender with size and reach. He's on track to be a solid D1 player for the Engineers as he enters his second year of junior hockey after playing for the Austin Bruins of the NAHL last season."

This seems to confirm Xander will be an affiliate for the Lancers this season and play for Chicago Mission U16. This also tells us that Dylan Davies is playing for the Omaha Lancers this season

On Wednesday, Team MO2 Properties defeated Team Constructive Renovations 17-8 in the Chicago Pro Hockey League (Development Division). Max Itagaki had 5 goals and 5 assists.

Itagaki’s line is now 6-17-19-36-0.
I doubt that Dubinsky really played, but as I wrote he is not a recruit anyway.

. There are goals not credited again.

Xander Babich is quoted in this article. The article pretty much says that lots of Illinois kids would be interested in staying home and playing for UIUC once they get a team and quotes a few of Chicago Mission kids. This could potentially hurt us as we have developed a bit of a pipeline with them with Zach Dubinsky, Dylan Davies, Max Itagaki and Xander Babich. I don't think we'd necessarily lose them should UIUC get a program, but it's something to watch

Today is the final day of the Chicago Pro Hockey League. It consists of the Gold Medal game and the Bronze Medal game. Since Itagaki's team is in third, they play for Bronze. The links are not up yet. Hopefully the box score will eventually be posted.

Itagaki is currently #2 in scoring in the Development part of the CPHL.

I had mentioned that UI doesn't have nearly the national brand of Penn State or the other B1G schools and because of that, I didn't think they'd immediately get every Illinois kid to go play for them. I guess that doesn't seem to matter though because the article makes it seem like many Illinois players would be interested in playing for them. Luckily, they've supposedly been "right on the edge" of getting the program for years now, and it keeps getting delayed. Hopefully, it keeps getting delayed and we can get those players in Cherry and Red by the time they actually get the team.

The box score was not filled in for Powell River's preseason game on Thursday, but Jack Brackett (#42) was in the lineup. Maybe it will be later, but probably not. Powell River won 3-2 in OT with Jack Brackett scoring two goals.
