Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20 (Part II)

On Monday, the Brooks Bandits defeated the Canmore Eagles 8-2. James McIsaac had an assist. https://admin.esportsdesk.com/leagu...D=1705&leagueID=3464&gameID=1905527&link=AJHL

McIsaac's line is now 39-11-20-31-49.
This is the game that Hab said he would go to. As he expected, Brooks dominated the game with a 43-18 SOG advantage.

I did get to the game, Ralph, and saw just the first two periods. Brooks is, w/o question the best Jr.A team I have seen.

McIsaac looked pretty good but not spectacular. But then, aside from Brooks' top 5 everyone on the ice looked pretty ordinary. Three of those top five are going to do very well with NCAA teams: Hernandez (Robert Morris); Lee (Merrimack); and Rego (Holy Cross). The other two (Kreiger and Thomas) don't show as having college commitments...I suspect they are going to major junior teams?

On the positive side, I think it is safe to assume that McIsaac, like every player coming out of the Brooks program, will come to RPI with a solid foundation.

Thanks for the report.

None of those commits are going to top programs. Krieger could go major junior. Thomas is already in his overage year. Either could still go D-I. Krieger is an '01, so he has time. I was surprised that it took Hernandez so long to commit. Although he did not play great there, he did play two years with the USNTDP. It is very rare for those players to still be in juniors in their overage year.

On Tuesday, the Youngstown Phantoms lost to the Muskegon Lumberjacks 4-2. John Beaton had no points or penalties. Dylan Davies had a holding penalty. https://www.ushl.com/view/#/game-summary/8957

Beaton's line is 26-10-5-15-10.
Davies' Muskegon line is 9-0-0-0-4.
His total is 21-0-0-0-6.
FWIW, both players were in the starting lineup.

RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20 (Part II)

From previous thread:

Confused how all of a sudden, Watson gets downgraded half a star (which is a big difference). It doesn't make sense to me, not like he has gotten any worse in my opinion. Is this a bad sign?

I wouldn’t worry about it. He’s played infrequently behind a guy (Stevenson) that’s dominated the league (#1 GAA approaching 1.5. #2 Save % at 94%). More important, It’s hard to take any scouting service seriously until you see how they do over time. As we’ve seen from our football brethren, some services have become famous for adjusting ratings based on offers. An early season 3 star that gets an Ohio State offer will soon be a 4 or even 5 star. A 3 star whose best offer is UConn or Rutgers will often end up a 2 star. So we may be seeing the “RPI Effect”, in which our hockey recruits are viewed in a more negative light until we become winners again.

I can't remember who, but they have also upgraded at least one recruit immediately after he committed to us. I think that it is mainly that they don't reevaluate frequently. and when a recruit commits they often think about it again. A think that if they thought about Beaton again he would go up from 3.50.

Recently, they seem to spending most of their effort on their NHL rankings. There probably is more money to be made there than on rankings for college and major junior.

I’m curious how they rate Stevenson now versus last year. He’s a year older than Watson and having a tremendous season for the best club in the league. But his stats from his first two years are worse than Watson’s current numbers over far more games.

He is a 3.00. :D Clearly, he has never been reevaluated.

Although that is in line with my previous post that they don't reevaluate players much, it surprises me that in his case they haven't since this year is so much better than the past. Even if some of his improvement is due to the team, he has great numbers for a league that is usually described as being a scorers' league.
