RPI @ Niagara 11/18/09

Re: RPI @ Niagara 11/18/09

Appreciated your sarcastic wit-but in over 45 years of RPI hockey I cant ever remember a team pulling their goalie down by 3 goals with a minute to play having it be successful for them-just wondered why SA would do it being down by that much. I could understand even if it was 2 goals and I just thought he was trying to make some sort of statement by doing it.

I've seen it happen in much more important games and much, much earlier to try and get things stirred up and get back in the game. Gotta try something to shock the offense into gear. One goal against SLU and Niagara a piece... Eh, why not?

I guess it makes sense then-somewhat

Could it be as simple as giving the guys some practice with the extra attacker on the ice, so when they're in a game where it DOES matter, they have some game experience to pull on?

That I understand-and think may have been exactly what SA had in mind:)

Re: RPI @ Niagara 11/18/09

Having followed this Niagara team a possibility is that RPI had seen that about half the goals Niagara has given up this year were in the last 5 minutes of the game and they were hoping that would continue. Niagara has yet to trail by more than 1 goal with 5 minutes to go and those last 5 minute breakdowns have led to their dismal record. The rest of the game the Purple Eagles have held their own with everyone they've played.

Wow, really?

Yeah, I don't see that "let's wait until the last 5 minutes of the game to win" strategy being something that any competent hockey coach at any level would adopt.

Fail.

Re: RPI @ Niagara 11/18/09

Just got back from the game, and honestly, I feel like I just watched last year's team. Dump and chase just about every time, not working it into the zone. Penalty kill was putrid. At least we scored on the power play, but we should have been playing much better. Granted, Pat Cullen and Alex Angiers-Goulet had the night off, giving Watts and Beauregard a chance to play.

Coach showed great disappointment over on the bench, and I can't say that I blame him.

We've got a week and a half. Let's get some practices in, let's work on the penalty kill, and get ourselves to a point where we're competitive for our own tournament. I will NOT accept Yale/Brown being the high point of the season.

FlagDUDE08 is hereby banned from away games in the future.

Why am I banned from away games? Because we lost two in a row?

So you're writing off Colgate and Cornell already?

In fact, I should go to Messa for that game as well just to spite your comment.
