RPI @ Maine game 2

Maine is a very good and well coached team. They were all over the ice and won every battle for the puck.
Tonight's game is going to be a real challenge.

Bit of an understatement in my opinion. I cannot remember many games in which we have been so thoroughly dominated for a full 60 minutes. The SOG's only tell a part of the story. Would like to see total shots taken numbers as we probably blocked a bunch more. i was only able to watch the first 40 minutes but it was obvious that we were not being allowed to complete 2 consecutive passes and were constantly backing up in our own zone. Maine had all their forwards deep in our defensive zone and gave our defense no time to maneuver. Watson prevented this from being a far worse drubbing. other than the goal we scored i think we had only 2 or 3 other good offensive chances total. Interesting that we took a too many men on the ice penalty late in the second period which allowed Maine to put this game away and that we were still able to keep this as a one goal game until then.

I don't know what more I could have said without saying that we got our butt kicked.
Somewhere in the third period the shots taken by Maine were 65. I would think that they had over 70 for the game.

My own little sarcasm - I thought we were totally overwhelmed and I honestly cannot recall the last time i felt that way. For the first 5-10 minutes it was not as obvious as it soon became. The top 2 Maine lines we could not handle at all and special teams had me simply holding my breath as they controlled the puck in our end when they had the man advantage and often when they were short handed.
But it must be said that was yesterday and we could make tonight a much more competitive game - but we will have do a lot of things differently and better. We simply must win at least 1/2 the face offs and move the puck out of our end rapidly before Maine starts that aggressive fore check that caused us all sorts of problems. Big time kudos to Watson however who never gave an inch and was only beaten by shots that he had no chance on by a defense that allowed Maine to set up and stand within a few feet of the net.

We are capable of playing much better than last night. Lets go red

We would almost have to be better. I will not be able to watch this one since we will be home instead of out at dinner. I would imagine every TV at the pub will be tuned on some other sporting event since Friday nights they have a standing room only crowd.

I cannot remember many games in which we have been so thoroughly dominated for a full 60 minutes.

Sometimes my memory plays tricks on me, but I agree that this looked like one of the worst performances I can remember. I think I commented elsewhere that the RPI energy levels looked so low I was wondering if a flu bug had gone through the team. Maine may have a strong team, but I agree with sezenack that RPI can play much better.

I guess that their linemate from last year, Dovar Tinling, was unable to tell his current teammates how to stop the Nadeau brothers. :-D
