RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's probably a very long shot, but our AD might want to hire someone she remembers from BU.
Tapp is a BU alum and I seem to recall that he;'s worked BU summer camps over the years....it's possible Bowers met him then. He has done a ton of recruiting including for Union's natty run under Bennett and at Dartmouth where they've managed to turn that ship around under Cashman. There's no question he knows recruiting in the ECAC. If he can coach the Xs and Os in game situations is another question that I can't comment on.

Tapp didn't even get an interview when Hague got Union job.
If memory serves, (no guarantee with me !) Tapp chose not to apply for the job following Bennett's departure. Schott interviewed him at the time and he said he felt an obligation to Dartmouth and the kids he had recruited in his first two years there and didn't think it fair to them to turn around and apply for the Union job. Says a lot about the guy's character IMO.

Today is 2 April 2025. There are 185 days until RPI's next game. It has been 24 days since there has been a head coach.

This is based upon 4 October 2025 for the start of next season, and 10 March was the day that coach Smith was relieved of duty.

The latest write up by Stephen and Chris does a nice update on our search: https://thefieldhouse.substack.com/p/tapp-brooks-added-to-finalists

After reading the write up I did a little follow-up research on the new candidates. I was surprised to find out that Tapp, a former BU goaltender, is only 5'7". No wonder goaltenders have had such success on his teams. To play goalie at that height you have to have impeccable positioning and technique. I did have a hard time imagining how he looked coaching Dartmouth's huge goaltenders like Black and Stevenson. Our goaltending in recent years hasn't been great, although they've hardly been helped by our team defense. We could certainly use our goaltending stealing a few games per year as we've seen in seasons when we were more successful.

We wrote about Pereira in our initial piece. Reports now that Chris Brooks from Clarkson is visiting too. How did Schott screw this up so bad????

I feel much better about a finalist round of Lang Tapp and Brooks.

Would still rank Lang first
You're only as good as your sources... if an article doesn't name sources, then a big asterisk should pop into the readers head.

I can say that McMahon's / Schott's mention of Doyle candidacy was not in error, Whether or not he is a finalist I have no idea.
As I've mentioned previously, without knowing who applied for the job, nothing is certain from our viewpoint regarding what the list looks like.

Tempus Fugit!!

Regarding the reportage. Kudos to Mike and Ken. Between the two of them we got a list (maybe partial) of who interviewed. There has been very little coverage of RPI for the last several years and the attention and info is welcomed. Doyle and Jewell interviewed, along with the other three. #EricLangfor RPICoach

I have no idea who the new coach is going to be.
That said, it is already too late.
Good luck for the next couple of years.
That's the spirit ! LOL

In the Sunday Gazette, Doyle confirmed he interviewed.
They may have done a number of Zoom interviews, but I'd really only view the ones invited to campus to be truly in consideration.
i talked to many alumni and none have been talked to about the asst coach spots
I wouldn't expect non-current staff to be considered for slots until after the new coach is named. Even if the remaining current guys are recommended to the new coach (or not), he must have the final call.
if we get lang maybe we can get barnes beljo or lundy it does bother me that they were 13-23 this year record
The last few years haven't been as good for AIC so they should be a consideration, but I'm not sure I'd worry too much about this year's record. They opened with 5 out of 7 games against teams that would end up in the tournament (winning one in a SO versus Ohio State) and before they could really get into the heart of their Atlantic Hockey schedule the school pulled the rug out from under them.
