RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

During the BC game Colby Cohen opined "what is RPI waiting for". Let's do this Kristie
The name Nero comes to mind... ha ha
I've given up on predictions and hunches. LOL The fact that Riley's deal got done so quickly tells me he likely was either not interested in the RPI gig or he was not considered a strong "short list" candidate by the searchers, Either scenario would be concerning, albeit for different reasons.... If the short list is as short as we think it is, then the delay is a bit of a head scratcher. Could there be a dark horse candidate who they wanted to interview / meet with but were unable to until now ? Certainly possible.

Re: Riley, the opening was due to retirement, so there could have been a lot of pre-work done behind the scenes. I have my fingers crossed that RPI is moving quickly.

Perhaps an assistant at a school in the NCAA tournament.

We have a new coach coming in ( I hope sooner than later). We have players leaving every day from this years team. No one has mentioned the incoming recruits (how many of those will we lose because of the coaching change).
This team coming into the new season will have to be introduced to each other.
Not a great formula for putting together a competitive team.
I don't expect much from the new team, so I look forward to being surprised.
Now lets name a new coach so we at least know who is going to lead this group.

Correct. But there certainly isn't any reason Riley couldn't listen to RPI's pitch...if they did in fact reach out to him. If nothing else, you might make Ferris nervous enough to up their $$$ offer to seal the deal. That said, we'll probably never know what the level of interest was -- on either side.

Gazette reporting that finalists are Lang, Jewell and Joe Doyle, Associate HC at Air Force. I understand 1 for sure, a second as a reasonable possibility, but the Associate HC at Air Force? Knowing our history and luck....

I heard that as well. LIU is now open that’s closer to the Bronx. If his wife works in the city maybe that’s more appealing to him? Just another scenario?
RPI is more $$ however. A real conundrum
Lang's wife works at Mercy University in Dobbs Ferry. They live in the Hartford suburbs. For the life of me I don't know how they've been able to juggle those work schedules. The distance between Dobbs Ferry and Uniondale (or Brookville to the campus) is certainly shorter than Troy to Dobbs Ferry but as one that commuted for years from CT to a nearby location on LI, it's a traffic nightmare and crossing the Throgs Neck Bridge 2x per day transfers an obscene amount of income to the Bridge and Tunnel Authority.

Edit: I can't see LIU being a real competitor. First of all, no one on LI cares. They averaged 300 fans per game, beating only AIC and Stonehill. Second, scheduling is a nightmare, particularly after the holidays. They played Stonehill 8 times this season. They also played both Alaska schools, Lindenwood, Assumption, Saint Anselm, etc. just to get a full schedule. I don't understand the economics or logic that make playing D1 hockey at a rink about 10 miles from their LI campus (formerly CW Post) and 20 miles away from the main campus in Brooklyn make any kind of sense.

Wow, I'm also ok with Dan. Give me some credit dude, I got 2 out of the three right.

Oh my goodness, this analysis is over the top but so good!

Today is 30 March 2025. There are 188 days until RPI's next game. It has been 21 days (3 weeks) since there has been a head coach.

This is based upon 4 October 2025 for the start of next season, and 10 March was the day that coach Smith was relieved of duty.

Today is a very special day in RPI hockey history. It is the 40th Anniversary of our NCAA championship (and the last time we scored a goal).
For those who subscribe online to the Times Union, check out the article. An excellent interview with Adam Oates reflecting back…

Here is the first 2 paragraphs of the article regarding Oates…
Adam Oates’ list of hockey accomplishments is legendary. Lauded as one of the greatest playmakers in the history of the sport, he’s a 2012 inductee of the Hockey Hall of Fame and was honored on the NHL’s list of its 100 greatest players when the league commemorated its 100th anniversary in 2017.
More than 20 years since his playing career ended, Oates’ statistics still stack up with the greatest in hockey history. His 1,079 career assists are eighth-most in NHL history, and his 1,420 points put him 20th on the league’s all-time leaderboard.

It has to be Lang. You could sell me on the potential ceiling of hiring Dan Jewell but neither of those two are in the same world as Lang right now
