Re: RPI 2017-18 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

Given that the season actually starts this month, wouldn't it have made sense to just have this be the first season thread?

Yes indeed, but in the past people have said it wasn't the season yet.

Re: RPI 2017-18 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought "nice touch" for the "pre-season" part (instead of "off-season").

at 36 posts per day, we can easily fill this thread by the end of the month....

It is the same title which was used a year ago. I couldn't think of anything as I was preparing to go bike riding. A matter of act, I originally wrote 2016-17 and had to start over. :o

Re: RPI 2017-18 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

While it is still pre-season for the ice hockey teams, the regular season for the fall sports is getting under way this weekend.

The women's soccer team lost to Western Connecticut today, 2-0. The field hockey team scored twice, but also came out on the losing end against Hartwick, 3-2.

The men's soccer team defeated New Paltz this evening, 2-1.

The football team will play its opener tomorrow against William Paterson. William Paterson last year finished 2-8, by far the worst record of any of RPI's non-league opponents on this year's schedule.

Re: RPI 2017-18 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

In honor of Jesper Ohrvall and Aly Tremblay, today is 2 September 2017. There are 28 days (4 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 30 September 2017 for the start of next season.

Re: RPI 2017-18 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

RPI's football team had a very successful season opener, beating William Paterson, 45-0.

In case anybody was wondering about the effect of TV timeouts, replay reviews, and that sort of thing on Division I FBS games - by the time RPI's game ended, Penn State's game vs. Akron, which started an hour earlier, still had five minutes left to play in the fourth quarter.

45-0 and the score was far closer than the game was. Probably not an indication of how we do the rest of the season but i believe a very highly rated Hobart team (always near the top of our league) got upset in their first game.

Re: RPI 2017-18 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

Yes, Hobart did, indeed, get upset in their first game. They were ranked 14th going into the game, but lost to Brockport, 34-20.

Oddly, RPI's next opponent (WPI) and their last previous opponent (SUNY Maritime) both won yesterday by larger margins than RPI did. SUNY Maritime beat Maine Maritime, 59-13, while WPI blasted Anna Maria, 48-0.
