Routers

Patman

Rodent of Unusual Size
OK... bluntly... i bought a new wireless router (belkin) so I can access the internet (digital cable)... plain to say it sucks. I put a password on it but none of my iPhone, Macbook, nor Wii can connect to it.

I was wondering what others used for a wireless router or if you have one that plays happily with those devices. I'm not in a particular mood to track down and judge 1000 different router models.

Re: Routers

I use an Airport Express which works fine with all three of your items IME. I can't say more about your specific problem without more info.

frankly, i don't really want to go into detail because i can't figure that i've done anything wrong... excpt maybe configure the router though my windows machine... but my macbook is alleregic to its own cd/dvd drive.

Re: Routers

I would check the type of encryption you are using on the password and make sure it is compatible with the devices you are trying to use. You also may be trying to use the unencrypted password and you need to figure out the hex version and use that on the other devices.

We have a Belkin and have two laptops, my iPhone, and our Wii hooked up to it (wirelessly) without a problem.

This is going to sound silly, but try unplugging your modem and then plugging it back in. When we first got our cable/Internet last month and were setting everything up, we were having an issue with what we thought was the router but ended up being that we just had to unplug the modem.

Re: Routers

I've heard Buffalo makes great routers. They're a little pricey but my FIL swears by them.

Netgear has fallen apart. Awful routers now.

Re: Routers

Ditto on the Linksys. When we had cable... never a problem.

Now we have Verizon Fios and no need for a separate router.

I would try hockeybando's idea first. Unplugging and replugging in the cable modem may do the trick... the modem will reset.

I've unplugged and reset things about 100 times... trust me... getting an internet through a wired connection sucks... especially when I have no real coffee table (I'm using an air mattress for a couch right now).

The thing is if i have to go about and buy another one it better as hell work... that's my take right now. I'm not in the mood to play games.
