Regionals attendance

This always seems to be a popular topic this time year

Just judging from the TV shots of the stands, it doesn't seem to be as embarrassingly empty as they were last year

Re: Regionals attendance

BPort looked good for an early game. Cinci looks bad, surprised they didn't make that regional play sat/sun, Friday afternoon games should be reserved for regionals that will always draw well, like minny. Then again, most of Ohio/Kentucky is unemployed, so maybe it's a good plan. ;)

Re: Regionals attendance

The regionals and sites are predetermined in advance whether they will be Friday Saturday or Saturday Sunday

One "Eastern" and one "Western" regional must be Friday/Saturday and the other will be Saturday Sunday

Cincinnati actually looks jampacked compared to what we saw in Toledo and Grand Rapids last year

They do not wait for which teams are going where to make that determination

I completely understand that, they should still make obvious low-drawing sites the weekend games ahead of time. They'd need OSU, Miami, and UMich to make that regional to fill the joint.

Re: Regionals attendance

East regionals will always draw better than West regionals because of geography see have to pick one Western regional to be on Friday/saturday

MSP will draw 10-13k (maybe more with the goofs there) whether the games are at 8a on Wednesday, or Fri/Sat. It's a no-brainer.

Re: Regionals attendance

Ever notice how the loudest critics of neutral sites are the people that are fans of teams that would host, if we went back to campus sites?

Re: Regionals attendance

East regional looks completely full

Bridgeport was basically sold out between the red lines. It certainly helps to have QU there and UVM also travels well. It seems like the Friars brought at least a vocal group. Union is a short trip too; I hope they drew well. With the exception of putting Yale in, it was really a perfect regional for B'Port.

Bridgeport attendance is very good. A QU/Union final tomorrow could push sellout status.

Re: Regionals attendance

Cincy looks pretty good on Twitter.
Looks pretty good on TV to me. If so, that'd be great, because Cincinnati has low priced tickets, presumably to increase attendance. Hopefully, other western sites will follow suit and cut ticket prices.

Fingers crossed on that one.

Re: Regionals attendance

6,529 in Bridgeport--
Why didn't they increase initial allotment to schools,
Only sold 500 tickets in last two days?

Re: Regionals attendance

Presume this Cincinnati regional is because there must be a "local" host school, in this case Miami Redhawks, with Oxford 30-35 miles away from Cincinnati. Attendance in Game Two looked decent, no doubt bolstered by how well the Still Sioux travel as well as the loyal army of UW alums who make it to games played anywhere on the planet. Since goofy ESPN, which only recognizes the game of college hockey two weeks a year (while pestering us ad infinitum about EuroSoccer and other minutiae), chose to blackout the country from Ferris' survival of a close brush with Colgate (TM Pending), don't know what Game One looked like, but I'm guessing there were echoes in the building. Congrat's to Still Sioux and the Buellers, hoping for a fun game in the Queen City today.
