Quarterfinals: Augsburg at St. Norbert

Re: Quarterfinals: Augsburg at St. Norbert

from the other site:

As for Augsburg, it's off it St. Norbert for their third NCAA quarterfinal date in as many years. St. Norbert has won both, scoring a 6-1 win in 2016 and a narrow 4-3 overtime win a year ago. The two have also already met twice this year with the Green Knights coming out on top of 3-1, 4-0 decisions on December 8 and 9. Augsburg has not defeated St. Norbert since it topped the Green Knights, 7-4, on November 5, 2005.

"We're familiar with them now but at the same time they're familiar with us," Brown said. "That's one of the reasons we played them in the regular season. Tim (Coghlin) has been asking us to play for a few years now and I kept telling him no, but (we played them) this year and we'll play them next year as well. I figure, we need this, if we want to be a top program then at some point you have to go into that rink and try to knock them off."

"Now that we've played them quite a few times I think we can try to put a game plan together to try to give ourselves a chance, but we know what we're up against for sure."

tickets are now on sale:

Augsburg fans: Sections C & D are the usual visiting fans sections. That's right by the tunnel where the visitors come out, and on the same end of the ice as your bench.

That said, the Auggies shoot twice at the other end of the ice, so you may be interested in Sections J-N, as well.

Re: Quarterfinals: Augsburg at St. Norbert

St. Norbert has outscored its opponents 39-6 during its nine game winning streak and has not allowed more than one goal in any of the nine games.

That's insane considering the last four of those games were in the NCHA tournament.

Re: Quarterfinals: Augsburg at St. Norbert

Wow. What a game.

SNC wins 5-2. But it was much closer than that.

SNC controlled the first period, and led 2-0 after one. AC had a stretch of controlling play but really never had good chances offensively.

On a PP that carried over from the first, SNC scored early in the second to make it 3-0. But Augsburg came storming back. A bad defenseive breakdown by SNC led to the first AC goal, and a juicy rebound given up by Black led to the second. Auggies had a chance to tie it but Black turned away a breakaway. Huge play. SNC led 3-2 after 2.

Third period was just great hockey by both teams. Good chances, good plays, good defense, good saves. Then, AC passed it from the the edge of the faceoff dot, and another AC player hit it with his stick behind his own goalie. Oh my. An own goal that was the backbreaker. SNC added an ENG for the final score.

So, on St. Patrick's Day, the GREEN KNIGHTS advanced to the Final Four. But helluva game by Augsburg. This was no gimme and was closer than the score might indicate at first glance.

Re: Quarterfinals: Augsburg at St. Norbert

I was unable to see this game so thanks for posting the highlights. Getting better, just need a break! Do you know if Augsburg is on the SNC schedule for next year?

I don't know for sure - and can check. But since they played twice in De Pere this year, I would think they play twice in Minneapolis next year. I will ask. Or, paging SNCSID???
