First time I've seen the Tigers this year (at least a regular season game--I saw them in an exhibition against McGill last month). One thing may be different than most years--this team can score. After four unanswered goals against Cornell last night (unfortunately, they gave up 5 in the first period), the Tigers scored 6, all in the third period (two were empty net), for a 6-2 win over Colgate. Six goals in one period! In past years they were lucky to get that many goals in two games.

The team is relying a lot on freshmen. Hilary Lloyd looks to be a standout, and Cassidy Tucker already has two unassisted short-hand goals. Should make for a more wide-open season this year.

Other than the game versus Harvard, that would certainly seem to be true, and on that occasion, the Tigers piled up 44 shots. The oddity is that goaltending looked to be a known quantity entering the season, and now the future of that position is a bit murkier. I'm looking forward to seeing the Tigers in person for the first time since 2006 at the end of the month.

True enough about the goaltending. Holt, who had been a benchwarmer her entire career, may have earned the starting spot (at least until she has a bad game).

I'm not at the game today (stuck at work), but according to the current box score, the shot totals after two periods in the UNH-Princeton game are 6-2, including zero shots by both teams in the 2nd period. Has anyone ever heard of a period with no shots on goal? What is going on in that game?

The shot totals were 6-2 after 1 period - 10-6 with only 1:06 to go in second period. Still very low shot totals...

Ah, I see. The ECAC site just hadn't updated the stats, and put in zeroes. Princeton still up 1-0?

When is a tie a win? Today vs. BC, that's when. Even though the Tigers out shot the Eagles, the crowd today seemed very happy with the tie. Considering that the tying goal was late in the game, and BC owned the overtime period, Princeton was lucky to get the point against a top ten team. Some acrobatic saves by both goalies, and more than a few shots rang off the pipes. Fun game.

Here's a goofy stat: Princeton has scored as many short-handed goals (5) as power play goals. We in the stands now almost root for penalties to be called on us.

First time at Baker Rink in what seems like months, nice win over Penn State, 6-1. Leahy and Butler each with two goals, and Pankowski with a beautiful one-timer. No short-handed goals, though. The Tigers now have 7, which is more than the rest of the ECAC combined.

Big win over Dartmouth today. Ugly game, but that was mostly due to Derek Martin's horrible officiating. 23 penalties, and some of them were phantom calls. Jamie McDonnell had the game-winner, a beautiful goal at the start of the third period.

This win gives the Tigers a little breathing room at sixth in the conference, with Dartmouth, Yale and RPI fighting it out for the last two spots.

Very bad loss tonight to Yale. Senior night, everybody in a good mood, up 3-1 in the second period, and then they give up four unanswered goals. They outshot Yale 50-16, so it would seem Kimberly Newell is in for some criticism, but Yale seemed to make adjustments, and Princeton didn't, and Yale got the most out of their shots. This is the same team that tied Clarkson in Clarkson. I think it all but dooms them to a sixth-place finish, which means they will have to travel to Clarkson or Harvard (or maybe Cornell). If you can't get motivated for your last home game of the year, I don't know what will do it.

I know we all tend to look at results in terms of what the team we follow did right or wrong. And you did say Yale made adjustments. I watched the two games Minnesota played at Yale, and the Bulldogs were definitely a team that got better as the game went along. They are one of the few teams to beat Harvard, so it isn't just you. The Tigers are playing for playoff positioning. Yale is playing for its playoff life. Senior nights are always tricky, because teams are emotional early and can be shaky then, or they can be adrenaline-feuled and burn up too much energy early and have little left at the end. So a tough game, but don't look too harshly on your team for it. Just one ill-informed opinion.

Gotta love this game. After two bad losses to teams below them in the schedule, the Tigers turn around and beat Cornell. This means they have to back to Ithaca next weekend. I don't see them winning two out of three there, but at least they ended the season on an up note.
