Ohio State @ Wisconsin 10/10 - 10/12

Ohio State will start off its WCHA season with a big series on the road in Madison with a tall task vs the #2-ranked Badgers. The Buckeyes have started off the season with an exhibition tie/shootout win vs Western University, then swept New Hampshire at home by scores of 1-0 and 4-3. Goals have come from seven different players thus far in the season, and freshman Kassidy Sauve started in net in the two games vs UNH. I understand the home football game Saturday is the reason we are doing a Friday-Sunday series. Mrs 86 and I are coming up for this series and cannot wait to get there! We made the trip up last season and everyone we came in contact with was really nice. We really enjoyed ourselves. I am thinking I will have to make another visit to Dotty Dumpling's Dowry for a burger like last year! Badger fans, tell us about your team this season. What have you observed so far and what can we expect when we visit next weekend? Based on your results to this point, it looks like you have another juggernaut up there! Here's to some great hockey this weekend and no injuries! :)

Also why we'll have not one, but two women's hockey/volleyball conflicts this weekend. :( Though with an 11:00 football game, I would think a Saturday night game would be doable - they do 8:00 men's hockey starts after 2:30 football games, after all.

Badger fans, tell us about your team this season.

They should be really freaking good in, well, all areas of the game.

Pretty much what I expected ... "really freaking good". Is there ever a season when that is not the case? :)

On the original point, I have to admit I did not check the volleyball schedule, but I did see that your men's hockey team is on the road next weekend. It's a shame they are making fans choose between women's hockey and volleyball, but then, that happens here, too. Of course, here, if us hockey fans want to know how the volleyball team is doing, we can walk across the breezeway and into St. John Arena to check the score. Then again, if you have been to the OSU Ice Rink lately, you know we have to do that anyway to go to bathrooms or the concession stand.

I would not count last year as a really "freaking good team" by Wisconsin's standards. They lacked scoring punch, which seems to be improved this year between the great recruits and only losing Packer @ forward. OSU was a tough opponent last year, so I'm hoping to see more seperation between OSU and UW.

How do this year's and last year's squads stack up?

They were decent last year; two years ago was when the Badgers were well below their norm. Quite an effort by by Decker to get 55 points with that supporting cast.

Re: Ohio State @ Wisconsin 10/10 - 10/12

My quick look says 12 different Badgers have scored.
The freshman class is stacked and while we're waiting on a goal from Annie Pankowski, she has seven assists, so I think we'll all take that.
The surprise of the weekend was Emily Clark, who scored twice, including a shorty, in her first game as a Badger.
Ultimately, we're all just as eager as you are to get our eyes on them for a live action.

The biggest differences are we lost two goaltenders and our leading scorer from last year's squad. We're starting a freshman goaltender (Kassidy Sauve). We had some other girls graduate but most of the team is back. Our freshman class is real good, and we had a girl transfer in from Mercyhurst. The series this weekend will definitely show us where we are at this point of the season.

Thanks for the info. What a great name for a goalie, Kassidy Sieve.....

OSU has an assistant coach named Duggan, any relation to Megan?

Timothy A, I don't think they are related because Coach is from Canada. Having been in Madison this weekend, your team is as advertised. Friday's game really wasn't competitive. Sunday was more competitive, but still a 3-0 loss. Your goaltending and defense is staunch. We just could not generate enough scoring chances, and on the occasions that we did, your goalie and D-corps stonewalled us. I am hoping for some bounceback wins next weekend vs Bemidji. In other news, you have a great facility and everyone was really friendly. I sincerely hope our athletic administration builds something like that for our kids someday (hope I live long enough to see that).

LOL, good one Eeyore! That made me laugh! Do you think you and I are the only ones here that get that?
The only two that get it? I'd say that was quite naive.:p Or perhaps you were partially blinded during your recent trip to Nova Scotia, to see the total eclipse of the sun.:D

What I saw were two games that were very one sided. Your team generated very few chances and were it not for the numerous penalties that the Badgers took in the 3rd period of Friday's game, that game could have been a whole lot worse. Sunday's game was better but not sure I would qualify it as more competitive. It was only close because of goaltending. The Buckeyes have some promising young players as do the Badgers however the big difference is the high octane offense that the Badgers possess. They are well balanced offensively and any line can score or takeover a game as was evident this past weekend. They are better than advertised. This upcoming weekend will tell the tale. Exciting.
