Ohio State vs Penn State 1/2 - 1/3

2016 is coming soon and with it, the end of the holiday break. The first half of the season was not kind to Ohio State. Aside from some lopsided scores vs Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Buckeyes have been very competitive in the WCHA and are 3-1 in the non-league portion of their schedule. In the WCHA, the Buckeyes are 3-11 with a sweep of Minnesota State and a win in Grand Forks vs North Dakota. It's been a learning experience for the ladies with new Coach Jenny Potter taking over this season. Us Buckeye Women's Hockey fans expect big things in the future for this program with Jenny Potter at the helm, but this season will be about building a foundation. Most fans realize that and are trusting the process. As for personnel, Ohio State normally starts both goalies in these weekend series, sophomore Alex LaMere and senior Stacy Danczak. As I have said on other threads, it has been scoring by committee this season as we don't necessarily have a superstar (ie. Natalie Spooner from 2008-2012) who can take over the game single-handedly. We do have a number of girls who can put the puck in the net. Penn State fans, let us know how your season has gone so far and what we can expect this weekend. Have a safe trip, for those who are coming to the games. This weekend's games are on Saturday and Sunday with both games starting at 2:07 pm EST.

Nice return for Jessica Dunne, scoring the game-winning goal in her first game back.

Re: Ohio State vs Penn State 1/2 - 1/3

Ohio State takes game one earlier today by a final score of 2-1. As one player described to me after the game today, this one was a "grinder". From the stands, you could tell it was the first game back from break as both teams looked a tad sloppy. As ARM has already mentioned, we finally got sophomore defenseman Jessica Dunne back today for the first time this season and she made her presence felt, scoring the game-winner. I had a chance to speak with Jessica after the game and it was great to see the pure joy on her face from being able to be back on the ice. Hopefully, we get her sister Jincy on the ice soon. I had a chance to speak to her after the game, too, and she is doing better. We still have some other girls injured and were without several players today due to undisclosed reasons. Let's just say there was a lot of skill and scoring setting in the stands today. Hopefully they will be back tomorrow. Back to the game, freshman defenseman Lauren Boyle scored her first goal of the season today. Penn State's goal was scored by Hannah England. Penn State outshot the Bucks today 21-14 with Sophomore goaltender Alex LaMere stopping 20 shots for Ohio State and Celine Whitlinger earning 12 saves for the Nittany Lions. One other significant note in the game, Penn State had a golden opportunity in the third period when Breanne Grant was assessed with a checking from behind penalty and ejected from the game. The Bucks proceeded to take two more minors after that, so the Lions had nearly ten minutes of power play time in the third period, but the Buckeye penalty killers rose to the occasion. Sophomore defenseman Dani Sadek was huge in those penalty kills with several blocked shots. The two teams will be back at it tomorrow at the same time ... 2:07 pm.

Great call on Dani. For further details see the Three Stars on the WCHA thread.

Great to read this...very encouraging. I hope for the same.

Re: Ohio State vs Penn State 1/2 - 1/3

Penn State took today's game by a final score of 3-2 to earn their first-ever win against Ohio State in six tries. Ohio State was basically down a line of forwards and appeared to not have their legs under them in the third period, but I am not going to discredit Penn State by using that as an excuse. Penn State outplayed the Buckeyes on this day and earned the victory. Ohio State did get out of the gate in the first period with two goals by Dani Sadek and Melani Moylan and led 2-0 at the first intermission. The second period was all Penn State and it turned out to be the difference in the game. Penn State came out flying and scored three goals in a seven-minute span to take the lead for good. One of the goals was a power play goal, the other two were even strength goals. Penn State's goals were scored by Laura Bowman, Emily Laurenzi, and Remi Martin. Ohio State outshot Penn State in today's game 28-17, but Penn State was able to get three of those in the net to the Buckeyes' two. Stacy Danczak had 14 saves for Ohio State and Hannah Ehresmann had 26 stops for Penn State. It gets tougher for Ohio State next weekend as they travel to Minnesota to take on the 3rd-ranked Gophers in WCHA action.
