Ohio State @ St. Cloud State 1/31 - 2/1

Ohio State comes off a good weekend where they swept Minnesota State to pick up a much-needed six points, raising their season total to 19 points and closing the gap on Bemidji State, who has 21. With this past weekend's results, the Buckeyes have separated themselves from Minnesota State and St. Cloud State, who are tied with 12 points. This weekend the Buckeyes head to St. Cloud to take on the Huskies. St. Cloud was very competitive in Columbus, winning in a shootout in Friday's game to pick up two points. Ohio State took Saturday's game 4-2 to get four points for the weekend. Ohio State hit a rough stretch in November and December, but seems to have gotten the ship righted, going 6-3-3 in its last 12 games. Should be an interesting series. St. Cloud fans, how has your season progressed? What can we expect this weekend? Here's to safe travels for everyone making the trip and also for an injury-free game.

You can expect stellar play from our goalies, Friend and Fitzgerald. Defensively, the Huskies have been quite consistent and quite good. Offense still is a "work in progress." Historically the games between OSU and SCSU have been competitive, close and sometimes dramatic. Should be a good series.

I sincerely hope Julie Friend is a senior this season! She has been tough for us to score on forever! :D

Singular -- you only need plural when speaking of Schmitts.
But the original cliché is... Oh, well, you understand that.

Still, sometimes it feels like there's two of them when you're trying to score. ;)

Does anyone know why both games this weekend are scheduled for 3:07 starts? SCSU men are in Omaha, so that isn't it . . .

I see Friday's game as a 7:07 start. It would make sense that Saturday is earlier if OSU wants to get out of town.

We ALL want to get out of town!!;) Yes, tonight's game is a night game at 7:07 pm. The wallet-sized schedules had both games at 3:07.

Ohio State takes game one 4-1. Taylor Kuehl opened the scoring for the Buckeyes. Molli Mott got the equalizer for the Huskies. The gwg was scored by Julia McKinnon. Claudia Kepler and Ally Tarr added the third and fourth goals for OSU. The teams play again tomorrow at 3:07. With the win, coupled with Bemidji State's loss to Minnesota-Duluth, Ohio State moves into 5th place in the WCHA.

Great job, Buckeyes. Keep it going!

The Buckeyes certainly did keep it going by blowing out SCSU 6-1. It was really hard to tell if Ohio St. is a force to be reckoned with come playoff time. The Huskies appeared disjointed in all aspects of the game. The reffing didn't do either team much good, as a cluster of what I would call "ticky-tacky" calls plagued both teams. Very little flow to the game, and as the score mounted, the Huskies lost any energy they may have had in the first two periods. My favorite Buckeye Taylor Kuehl scored again for Ohio, and second favorite Ally Tarr had 3 assists and #1 star of the game.

Thanks for the rundown of the game, Boomer. Payge Pena scored the Huskies goal. Ohio State's other goals were scored by Melani Moylan, Julia McKinnon (gwg for the second game in a row), Danielle Gagne, Cara Zubko, and Claudia Kepler. The Buckeyes return to the OSU Ice Rink next weekend to face Wisconsin.

Go Buckeyes - you can do it!
I'm not sure that I want them to do it. At this point, I'd prefer to see the Badgers stay on that No. 2 and No. 3 seed side of a potential NCAA bracket. I don't want them at No. 4, if the Gophers are at No. 1. Obviously, a lot can and will change in the next five weeks.

I do realize that the Buckeyes want all the points that they can get to avoid having to go to Madison or Grand Forks in the WCHA first round, but I expect that they'll finish above BSU even if they don't get any points off of Bucky.

Completely understand why a Gopher fan would want the Badgers on the opposite side of an NCAA Bracket. If for no other reason, I've always believed that the NCAA tournament should promote interleague match-ups to the maximum extent possible. Then, if two teams from the same league earn their way to the title game, so be it.

Speaking only for myself, I'd say that I want the Buckeyes to grab every point they can, and finish as high as possible in the standings. "Avoiding Grand Forks" isn't really on my radar screen.

If OSU earns 5th Place and UND were to somehow slip to 4th Place, you won't catch me wishing we'd lost some more games and finished 6th instead. My feeling is that if you have to go on the road in the first round, you're going to be playing a strong team at their place. Firing on all cylinders will be a must, regardless of destination. Maybe it's just me, but "Hoping For Duluth" or "Avoiding Grand Forks" just seems like the wrong mindset.

That makes sense. But if your tournament life depends on it, I think that there is a greater probability of a WCHA team going into Duluth and taking a best-of-three series than accomplishing the same at UND, once the Olympians have returned to their campuses. I believe that OSU lost too many points over the first half to have a realistic shot at 4th. Even though UMD appears to be close to North Dakota in the standings, with two games in hand, I like NoDak's chances of staying in third.
