We're still laughing about a reference on the tablets to Shannon Miller's championship days.

Several years ago we were at a dinner where we got to meet the new Gopher hockey players since we were season ticket holders. One of the players at our table (not from around these parts shall we say) said she had been recruited by Miller. When she talked to her the conversation was all about Shannon and what Shannon had done and what Shannon would do in the future. It was as if the player should be honored to play for her so end of story. She talked to coach Frost and afterwards she said it was an easy decision to come to Minnesota. I mentioned to her that her story reminded me that when we were in Duluth for a couple of games they had a photo of Shannon on the cover of UMD's hockey yearbook surrounded by her championship trophies. When the Gophers had their 10 year anniversary they handed out a large sheet with photos of all ten Gopher teams and photos of several different gopher jerseys showing how they had changed over the years. The focus was on the teams and not the coach.

Could be once Shannon stopped winning championships her main selling point on coming to Duluth from far away places started to sound a little dated.

I have heard stories from 4 different sets of parents of kids who were recruited by Miller but ended up not going there (3 MN, 1 WI) none had a positive impression but I always assumed that might have been as much because their kid they didn't go to UMD as it was the reason they didn't; I'd love to hear from parents whose kid did go. Obviously her message worked with some very good players.

Minnesota-Duluth took today's game by a final score of 4-3 to earn a split in this weekend's series. The Bulldog goals were scored by Morgan Morse (2), Ashleigh Brykaliuk, and Katherine McGovern. Ohio State's goals were scored by Julia McKinnon, Claudia Kepler, and Kendall Curtis. Buckeye goaltender Alex LaMere stopped 41 of the 45 shots she faced. Kayla Black earned 33 saves in 36 shots for UMD. Special teams were not a big factor in today's game with the Buckeyes going 0-1 on their power play and Minnesota-Duluth going 0-2 on their power plays. Ohio State returns home to face Wisconsin next weekend. The Bulldogs will travel to Mankato to take on the Mavericks.

Special teams were not a big factor in today's game with the Buckeyes going 0-1 on their power play and Minnesota-Duluth going 0-2 on their power plays.

I hope that was a sign of both teams playing a clean game, something that the penalties would suggest didn't happen on Friday.

A quick glance at the box score shows that Ohio State didn't play a "dirty" game Friday. One minor each for tripping and checking does not constitute "dirty" play. That may not be what you meant but your use of the word clean and the following phrase about that not happening Friday implies you thought both teams played dirty in Friday's game.

LOL, if Bradshaw and Hanrahan would have been calling those games, it would have been a guaranteed sweep for UMD. Both hate OSU and do everything they can to make sure the other team wins short of taking the puck and dropping it into the net for the other teams. Us OSU fans cringe every time we see Bradshaw and Hanrahan doing our games. We are having a tough enough time getting wins this season without having to play 6 vs 10.

Both hate OSU and do everything they can to make sure the other team wins short of taking the puck and dropping it into the net for the other teams. Us OSU fans cringe every time we see Bradshaw and Hanrahan doing our games. We are having a tough enough time getting wins this season without having to play 6 vs 10.

Given their level of competence, this implies that they are trying to help OSU, and simply failing.

No. I'm a math/logic guy. One major for a CFB is plenty to negate the statement, "both teams played a clean game." I'm not saying UMD was dirty, but a major means they sure weren't clean. No indictment of OSU on Friday, and as I said, I didn't see the game.

As was the case with Bemidji last week, if you don't get some luck against North Dakota, then you may not score. Getting shots isn't usually a problem against those teams, but when the luck is bad, everything hits a leg and bounces to a corner. I'd wish you luck this weekend, but given you have UW, you may be better served to store some luck up and carry it forward for the Beavers and UND. It still looks like we are on a collision course for the quarterfinals.

I would tend to agree with you regarding the collision course. With the last six games being vs Wisconsin, Bemidji State, and North Dakota, I am not 100% sure if we will be able to leap-frog over UMD and into that 6th spot or not. The effort will certainly be there, and with a new coaching staff this season and kids learning new systems, that is all I can ask. This season, to me, it's about building a solid foundation, not necessarily wins and losses. I know the coaches and team want to win games, but there are transition periods when you switch coaches. Sometimes those transitions result in tough seasons. Next season, with Kassidy Sauve back in net, along with a healthy Jincy Dunne (fingers crossed) and Coach Jenny's first real recruiting class, I will probably ramp up my expectations a little. Hard to believe there are only four more home games, then I have to say goodbye to our seniors. Gonna miss them.

Next year's class isn't likely to be entirely of Potter's choosing. With how early the verbals happen now, there were likely deals in place already when Handrahan was let go, and if there weren't, Potter was limited to the kids who were still available when she took over.

I have to think a certain amount of the decision is based on some sense or a relationship to the coach or their style. That would mean some uncertainty whit a new coach no matter how good their reputation. Did OSU lose anyone this year or next?

I have been impressed with the young Buckeyes D corps. The future is bright with Sadek, the 2 Dunne's, Boyle and Ranahan. Not sure what the recruiting class looks like at that position but the 5 they have returning are poised to have 2-3 good years. The mystery remains to see what JP will do with the offense although the last few weeks have been promising.

This is a good point, and thanks for pointing this out. Really, the first class that will be completely or mostly Jenny's will be the kids who come in for the 2017-18 season at OSU, and even that class may have some kids that Coach Nate recruited.

ARM beat me to it on this one. Thankfully, Gardner was the only player who backed out of her commitment to Ohio State. All of the other commits stayed, and I am thankful for that because this freshman class can really play. I was impressed from the beginning of the season at how skilled they were. To elaborate a little, I was impressed with their skating and their puck management skills.

I have also been very pleased with our young defensemen and agree with you on the future. With the Dunne's, Lauren Boyle, and Dani Sadek, and Alexa Ranahan, we should be in good shape defensively. The only downside is Alexa Ranahan is actually a junior, so we're only going to have her for another season after this one.
