Official Visits

With committments occurring earlier and earlier, do "official" visits (not allowed until senior year) even really happen anymore? Just wondering.

Re: Official Visits

The official visits are a time to formally meet the Team and with others at the School. It is great to look at schools as a sophomore or junior HS year on unofficial visits to then narrow the field of where you want to go. The official visit usually takes place even after a verbal commitment

Yes.

- D1 Scholarship Players - the visit is really perfunctory and just a chance for the specific girl being recruited to bond a little with the players - they have almost always already been to the school and met the team on an unofficial visit (international players might be the exception). By this point (Fall of Senior year) the scholarship spots are gone barring someone being dropped (unusual) or de-committing (even more unusual).

- D1 Recruited Walk-Ons - This is where an official visit might play a part. Schools may still be trying to fill their roster out with recruited walk-ons or a player may have developed/got noticed too late to be caught in the standard recruiting timeline. These players may still be deciding between schools and even between D1/D3 so that an official visit may play a factor in their decision.

- D3 - Official visits matter and usually play a major part in determining where the player is going to go because the recruiting timeline is so much later.
