Re: Northern Michigan Alumni

Very cool thread! I had no idea that there are so many NMU alumni currently playing professional hockey. I would say that this is a great testament to the quality of the NMU program. Thank you very much for the updated list, I will check from time to time to see if there are any further updates. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about chickasaw culture? I have been really interested in learning all I can, please let me know if you know of any good resources. Thank you.

Jeff Pyle is now the head coach of the AHL Texas Stars. Rich Metro has left LSSU to Head Coach/ GM in France for Villard de Lans in Ligue Magnus. Ray Kaunisto has been sent down to Manchester (AHL) by the Kings.

Geoff Waugh is playing for the KHL Medveščak. (Its a Croatian Hockey league)
Yikes. The AHL of the KHL?

List should be updated so far. Missing a lot of the guys headed to the ECHL, AHL, and those in Europe.

Re: Northern Michigan Alumni

Former Cat coach Rick Comley is working as a college scout for the Chicago Blackhawks. Brian Stewart has been sent to Binghamton (AHL) by the Ottawa Senators. Phil Fox and Eric Spady will be with the Texas Brahmas (CHL).

the Berlin Polar Bears are a team in Berlin, Germany playing in the D.E.L. or Deutsch Eishockey Liga (German Hockey League). It has traditionally been one of the top pro leagues outside North America. Former Cat Mark Beaufait had a long career over there.

Re: Northern Michigan Alumni

Mike Santorelli is currently on IR with a shoulder injury while Mark Olver is still on the Avs roster due to being placed on the IR with a head injury. In regards to Olver nothing has been published in regards to what the head injury is. So as of opening weekend the Cats have no players on an active roster in the NHL.

Re: Northern Michigan Alumni

Rough start to the season for Wildcat alumni. Along with both NHL'ers only staying on the rosters due to injuries, and only three in the AHL, Greger Hanson was released by the Florida Everblades today. Not looking good this season for alums.

Someone talked with his dad a month ago and he said Mark got hurt in practice, taking a skate to the head. I guess it was a pretty serious laceration, so Colorado is playing it safe.

Re: Northern Michigan Alumni

Yikes! All that was listed was "head" for the injury, so I just assumed it was a concussion. (Once you get the first one, you're more easily susceptible to getting concussions again)

Re: Northern Michigan Alumni

Oystie had 2 goals tonight in Portland's 5-3 win over Manchester. Also playing in the game was Ray Kaunisto for Manchester. He had 2 mins for Cross Checking and was pretty much a non factor. Oystie's two goals came on the Powerplay, which he looked really strong on.

That could have been the ultimate factor. The info I got was from a while ago (right about after it happened), and a concussion is seeming more likely since some sites have him listed as "Out Indefinitely"

Oh great. Hopefully the NMU alum didn't study too well and set the baseline for his concussion test too high...

Saw that happen in Chicago (AHL) with a Harvard hockey d-man last season. Set his baseline test too high and couldn't pass it for six weeks even though he was symptom free and cleared by the doctors to play.

Re: Northern Michigan Alumni

With Pronger out for another couple weeks the Philadelphia Flyers have called up Erik Gustafsson.
