Nichols College Lou Educate Transferring

Re: Nichols College Lou Educate Transferring

Sure, but I think they all get a lot more ice time (at least when they first arrive.)

Edit : and the majority of them work out prettty well, ie. Soley and O'Brien at SNC, Boots at Oswego, the Plattsburgh goaltender (Cadieux?), Krug at Adrian, Berenguer from Hamline (was he a D1 transfer?) are all recent guys I can think of off the top of my head.

Pretty sure Berenguer played all 4 years at Hamline.

There've been at least a handful of D1 transfers that didn't work out, you just don't remember their names because of that ;)

Some players are content to be part of a team without needing to be a leading star. Or they're there for the education or other aspects of that particular school. It's not like someone from MSOE's 3rd line is going to transfer to a liberal arts school just so he can get more playing time.

...and as for Krug, he left Wayne State after leading their team in scoring, so it's not like he was a 4th liner or anything either....

And he had to go somewhere, because Wayne State was done. And given that his younger brother went to MSU, he was likely staying instate.

Re: Nichols College Lou Educate Transferring

Basically most bigtime D1 programs work the NHL angle as a selling point of their program (with the exception of the Ivies and maybe AH teams.) D3 programs do not. Really it's as simple as that. Will most the kids on D1 rosters make it to the NHL? No, but these kids are able to keep the dream alive. Transfering down to a D3 school means giving up that dream.

Hammer, I know Wayne State was done so Krug had to go somewhere. My guess is that he chose Adrian because it was an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new program where he was assured of being a key player in building it from the ground up? He probably liked Fogarty too. That makes a lot more sense to me than dropping down a level to simply ramain in the same state as his younger brother who was starring for Michigan State. It's not even like Adrian is a state school where you could argue his decision was financially based. Hammer, you are a key member of this forum and you bring lots of great info to the table, but frankly your above post is weak sauce.

I'm surprised so many people are taking exception with my previous posts. In my experience they're spot on. Am I really alone on this?

Krug and both of his two brothers played their collegiate hockey in the state of Michigan, and all three of them went to school within 90 minutes of home. Was it a great opportunity for Krug to help build a program at Adrian? Of course. Let's not be silly. And if you don't like Fogarty after having a couple conversations with him, there's probably something wrong with you. But if you don't think remaining close to home at that time was a significant factor, you're fooling yourself. He wasn't going to a start-up D-3 program 400+ miles from home.

As for the rest of your posts, I don't have any issues at all. Guys choose, remain at, and leave, certain schools for many reasons. Academics, playing time, how well you get along with teammates, financial issues, all kinds of things. That's no great revelation. That's life. If a kid transfers down to D-3 and has a nice career, and walks out the door with a degree, that's a great scenario for all parties involved. For some guys it doesn't work out. Again, that's life.

I'm not sure what we're arguing about here....

I didn't think we were arguing at all. Just debating reasons why some players may choose to drop down a level.

I'm certain Krug could have transferred to a number of D1 programs after Wayne St. folded, probably even a Michigan based one. But he chose Adrian for reasons I can only assume were best for him, not because of what his little brother was up to. I doubt he is currently looking for work in the Boston area because his little brother is playing for the Bruins.

(If I could put one of those little smiling faces after this post I would, but I'm using a tablet that insists on using the mobile format of this website.) I'm out, much respect...
