Chris Botta, former NYT hockeywriter, NHL and NWHL PR exec and host of the Hockey Press Pass podcast tweeted that there will be a new PWPHA-backed league. He reports that "major brands/networks" will be partners along with "strong support from select NHL teams." and that the league will include Olympians and other top players.

It looks like Bettman has given up waiting for the NWHL to fold and to be handed a monopoly and is finally either backing a league or at least no longer obstructing those who want to back one.
Botta predicts the PHF will be around too next season and it could be an opportunity to evaluate for a merger afterward.
Interesting tidbit: former PHF founder and commissioner Dani Rylan Kearney is the Executive Producer for Botta's podcast (Fairly confident this is a financial producer credit as opposed to technical production). I wonder if Rylan Kearney is going to be involved with the new league. I don't think she is associated with the PHF after she found the owners for the individual teams.
Looking forward to the new league, and hopefully, the owners aren't jackasses like the WNBA owners who fined the Liberty half the salary cap for chartering flights for his players.
