NCAA Quarterfinals: North Dakota @ Minnesota

With all due respect to UND, they would not be able to handle either this Cornell or this BU, not the way either team played today, so UM had better win later if the WCHA fans have hopes of maintaining odds for another Frozen Four Championship.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: North Dakota @ Minnesota

It's now Cornell 7 - BU 7 going into the third OT period. 2010 Frozen Four Championship Game revisited? And with Cornell again!!!

So even if UM wins today, (they now lead 3-0 in the second), they had better bring their best game for whoever wins the Cornell vs BU game...absolutely no quit in either of those teams...each battled back from a 3 goal deficit with 3 unanswered goals each...with BU starting things off with a 3 goal outburst in the first period.

This is the second consecutive game that BU has gone into double OT..might either team still have the legs next week?

The difference could/should be Raty...maybe...if they first prevail over UND today.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: North Dakota @ Minnesota

And the wheels came off for the Souix! Kessel with a shorthanded goal middle of the 2nd!
GO GOPHS!

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: North Dakota @ Minnesota

This lack of competition, (on the scoreboard), that UM has experienced in this and their last game may not be overly propitious for them next week against Cornell.

Those who just watched the Cornell-BU game may just have witnessed the 2012 Frozen Four Championship Game. How do you top that? It was even 23.4 seconds longer than the 2010 Frozen Four Championship Game between Cornell and UMD! And this one had 15 goals!!!

Beyond belief!

Prepare well UM.

Did you watch the game? lack of competition??? only an "easterner" would come up with a comment like that! the WCHA is a dogfight EVERY weekend.
its been a season of playoff preperation for the Gophers. Good Luck to you my eastern friend...

was a great game! Take away goaltending,
and it was awesome. Minnesota is looking
like the favorites to win it all and I.have a feeling und will be back in ncaa's for many years to come

If that was directed at me I suggest that you read my post again.
Yours was quite funny.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: North Dakota @ Minnesota

It was a very good game! UND had many chances.. Raty is playing very well right now. I am feeling very confident in the WCHA. Glad you ... Blackbeard enjoyed your game! ;)

You see 15 goals.

I see a lack of goaltending and defense.

Well, it was two games within a game. The 1st game was 7-7 and the 2nd game was 1-0. So, there was definitely stronger goaltending and defense as the game went on. Slebodnick made some key, huge saves at the end of regulation, including a break away.

Exactly the point that I was going to make before seeing your post. Maybe the previous poster didn't watch the game but even so, he/she could have easily deduced that the "second game" was quite different than the first. The negative view of the second game would be "you see great goaltending and defence, I see a lack of offence since it took an entire game for someone, anyone, to score a goal". But that would be ignoring the other "half" of the game just as the poster's comment did.

The point, of course, is that this game displayed so many aspects of the game of hockey in a back and forth battle and by two extremely talented teams each of which has several world class players on its roster. And each team gave it everything they had...each overcame what appeared at the time to be an insurmountable lead...all of which ended in a dead heat at the end of the first game, propelling them into a marathon second game that for all intents and purposes was as close on all levels to also being a dead heat as is humanly possible...there was nothing more to give...physically, mentally or emotionally.

How a hockey fan can not appreciate and be in awe of such a game, such an effort, is beyond me.

One more minor point...these women don't get paid to do this.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: North Dakota @ Minnesota

What struck me yesterday is that MN just has more "finishers" than UND. Other than Karvinen, (who was excellent) and the Lams, most of UND's shots were flips, mis-fires, low velocity shots that Raty handled easily. If MN continues to work this hard and transitions effectively to utilize their speed, they may very well be the favorite next weekend.

Other than Karvinen, (who was excellent) and the Lams, ...
From what I've seen this season, I think Jakobsen belongs on the list as well, but I agree that Minnesota brings more scoring potential farther down the forward lines, and definitely from the blue line.
