National Championship bracket expansion approved (more is better)

The NCAA announced Thursday it has approved an immediate expansion of the women’s ice hockey championship bracket from eight teams to 11 teams. The expansion will take place for the 2022 tournament. The 2022 Frozen Four is being hosted at Penn State March 18-20, 2022.

The Division I Council on Wednesday approved the recommendations from the Division I Competition Oversight Committee to increase the Beach Volleyball Championship field to 16 teams and Women's Ice Hockey Championship to 11 teams. Both brackets had eight teams in 2021.

Yeah, so bracket integrity is not going to be applied to this year's tourney, which is completely unacceptable. They should save themselves the trouble and have the conference tourney winners play in the FF and not bother with the rest. wcha/cha winner play and the HE/Ezac play. Watts a joke.

Well, Duluth may as well book the hotels for their trip to Madison right now, get the lower rate, etc. Don't even bother to ask about the cancellation policy.

The Gophers can probably do so as well, but they might want to check on cancellations...

I love it! The sarcasm. The cynicism. The expectation that the NCAA will do their worst.

I’m holding on to hopes that TTT said maybe next year. Baby steps are tough, I hate waiting too but maybe next year?

what I am most encouraged about is the activism of the coaches that got this expansion in the first place. A great example of people in women’s hockey actually working together.

But what is the source for the uscho.com's December 16 article's (wonderful, if true) assertions about bracket integrity, intra-conference matchups and so forth? The NCAA's quoted language for the criteria for both men's and women's tournaments, as it appears both there and in the cited Wisconsin State Journal article, is hopelessly vague; are phrases like "competitive equity" well-understood NCAA jargon for "bracket integrity" or are there precise statements in some other NCAA document that the Wisconsin State Journal reporter didn't bother to quote for us?
