Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

Stalker is based on a short story by the legendary Strugatsky brothers. It is hugely influential in art SF. Andrei Tarkovsky is likewise an essential director in that period's art cinema. Since you loved Stalker, I also highly recommend Solaris (1972) and Andrei Rublev (1966). Read Stanislaw Lem's novel Solaris before you see it; it makes the experience much more enjoyable.

I did read up it and learned about the source material, but it's good to hear your recommendations on the other films as well as the novel. I'll take you up on it.

Lem is a lifetime study all in himself. "His Master's Voice" is the best story of first contact I have ever read, and one of the greatest practical expositions of Kantian epistemology in the last century. It also has a good beat you can dance to.

Went and saw Moulin Rouge at the local pizza-and-movie theater. It’s a favorite of my wife’s and enjoyable for me.

Baz Luhrmann was on some serious shit in the 90’s and early 2000’s though.

looks like I've got a new movie to watch tonight! I tried to watch hockey and these espn announcers are just so, so bad. I'm all for ripping North Dakota players but its not like jackson blake is a hard name to pronounce or remember

Galaxy Quest.

While not technically a Star Trek movie, it's a Star Trek movie.
It's the *best* Star Trek film.

I love that film. The contempt the actors have towards the fans are just *chefs kiss*.

Also, one of the greatest cinematic moments ever in the opening sequence I have ever seen and I have been dissapointed it was never re-created for BluRay re-release:

The opening scenes of the TV show portion of the film are displayed in a 4:3 format like original SD TV. It transitions to 1.85:1 for the real life scenes, and then one last transformation to 2.39:1 when the space ship doors open into space.

Such a neat effect at the time that hasn't really been used until recently with the MCU TV shows.

"By Grabthar's hammer... *rolls eyes*" 😂

Yeah, The Gunfighter packs a punch. I saw it when I was 16. It influenced my view of what healthy masculinity is. Great call, Southie. Highly recommend!

Helen Westcott aint hard to look at either although her character is the draggiest schoolmarm in film.

( pause )

Rule 34 for schoolmarms, confirmed. <-- NSFW, duh
