Motorsports 2026

5 (Russell, Hamilton, Norris, Lindblad, Bearman) of the top 12 drivers are Brits. Wonder if that's happened before. Wasn't there a Golden Age of Pommies in the 1970s?
 
You can essentially make it six with Albon. He’s born and raised in England, just races under Thailand to honor his mom and for sponsorship.
 
IndyCar with the worst luck. Supposed to have the Nashville race after the World Cup Final and it gets rained out.

The thing that really stands out for me with Mercedes this year is Wolff's reactions.

Antonelli wins, and Wolff is literally jumping up and down, pumping his fist, cheering loudly on Kimi's radio.

Russell wins, and Wolff calmly says, "Nice job George," while looking like someone killed his cat.

The dichotomy is so freaking obvious. I know Antonelli is his guy (and Wolff feels it's his redemption for missing out on signing Verstappen back in the day), but so was Russell at one time.

Russell has got to be pissed off with this intra-team atmosphere.

What really made this stark was I just got done watching the Drive to Survive "Dances with Wolff" episode (I watched S1 then cherry picked episodes since then to see how they covered things I heard/knew. I'll probably resume watchingat S6) and Toto was soooo gung-ho on calling up Russell to the main club.

This season feels like Toto is trying to force George to quit by just making a hostile work place.
 
I’m torn about George. He was coming along so well until this season. And for some reason, the car hasn’t clicked with him like it has for Kimi. And F1 is the ultimate “what have you done lately” for the top teams.

George is kind of a whiner, and he should have gotten enough of the blame yesterday that Lewis didn’t get a 5 sec penalty. So far Kimi hasn’t shown that kind of attitude- to the point of even very much improving his driving weaknesses.

So is it George not getting or not earning the treatment this season?

Could be a bit of both.

As for the penalty, Russell did admit in the pen that it was a racing incident, and laid no blame on Hamilton.
 
Toto Wolff on George Russell's poor weekend:

"Probably part of it is the engine"

"But on the other hand, the blame also lies in his driving"

With a boss like that...
 
Lots of teams struggling for grip at the Hungaroring. Norris gets pole, Leclerc second, and Antonelli third after Hamilton was given a three position grid penalty (2nd to 5th) for impeding Piastri.

Sounds like Antonelli is also under investigation for yellow flag infringement, but it looked/sounded like the same exact thing they let Russell off for in Austria. (Even the same situation, coming around a corner after Verstappen spun off)

And Antonelli got a penalty. Three grid places.

The consistent inconsistency of F1 stewarding is mind boggling.
 
Russell gets a new power unit, with no penalty, because on his aborted qualifying run the engine developed a leak and started spraying water all over the rear tires.
