My nissan altima started fine an hour or two ago, just went out to start it and it won't start.?
everything in the car turns on when I turn the key, it just won't even try to turn over. I opened the hood and noticed that there was a blue wire coming off the battery, that wasn't plugged into anything. Its got a white plastic thing around it and a copper coil coming out of the end of the wire. its definitely a hot wire too, I can't figure out where it would be going to and if thats why the car won't start...Any ideas?? Its a 97 altima

Re: more car trouble

You weren't overly descriptive. It might help if you posted a few pictures.

You might want to drop the $25 and get a Haynes guide for your car. If you plan on keeping it for a year or two more, you're likely to have more things like this crop up.

Check your ignition system, see if it's getting power. If that's all hooked up, then you should at least hear some clicks when turning the key to the <Start> position, which would lead you to the starter.

What's the temperature there? We couldn't get one of the trucks (1997) started a while ago when the temp was in the low 20's. The battery was frozen, not to mention the block was probably a bit chilly. Put some heat to it with a salamander for 1/2 hour and it started right up.

Re: more car trouble

Tap your starter with a hammer softly and try again. Starters get bad spots on them and if they stop in the wrong position they won't turn, tapping it with a hammer is usually enough to get it to turn.

Re: more car trouble

Does it make any sound when you try to start it or does it do nothing? Fuel line frozen?

Re: more car trouble

a engine that isn't turning could be a slew of problems. A dangling blue wire doesn't necessarily correlate to anything ,especially since no one here knows what that blue wire is for. Are your spark-plugs bad? Is your alternator busted? Do you have bad sensors? you need someone privy to the nissan brands from that era to help you on this one.
