Minnesota State @ RPI 12-16-23 I have been looking for a broom all morning!

DrDemento

I Still bleed RPI Red
The effort last night was far superior to what we have seen this season. Need to still do a little tinkering with this team as the defensive still was turning over some pucks in dangerous areas. But for the most part, the break out plays from our own zone were simply better in so many ways than in previous games. If we can avoid all those penalties and play with the fervor and resolve we showed last night, we could actually see two in a row! Let's Go Red!!!!!!!!

Totally agree, this team has so much more confidence than the team two weeks ago.
They are carrying the puck out of the defensive zone in stead of panicking and trying to shoot it out. They have cut back on those dangerous passes but they could still be better at that.
Now if they can do something about the special teams, we will have a very competitive team against anyone.
This is certainly a different team that started the season.

Lets go RED!!!!!!!

Special teams have been atrocious and last night almost cost us the game again. I have seen and played enough hockey in my lifetime to understand how important those 10-20 minutes are in each and every game. I have always felt that keeping puck possession during those periods of time (2 minutes or less) is crucial. Defensively, speed up front is essential in disrupting the outer perimeter passing and we have that speed in 71 and 24. The defensemen have to take away passing lanes, and keep the center clear enough for the goalie to see so he has at least a chance to stop shots. And it goes without saying you simply cannot allow the opposition to keep moving in so close that shots are taken from 5-10 feet away so that a goalie has virtually no time to react. Defensive pairings have to work together, cover for each other and most importantly communicate and sense where each other is. I sensed some improvement in the last 2 games in that regard but our #1 pair of 3 and 8 may have to be split up into a different set of pairings to be most effective.
Also noted - we cannot be lazy even for a moment. Everyone must instinctively skate to the puck and not simply wait for the puck to reach them. Our opponents are too fast and have learned how vulnerable we are to aggressive fore checking for us to do any standing around. Sounds simple, but we have to get to the puck and move it out without any delay and always remember a pass moves the puck up ice much more quickoly that it can be skated up ice. End of rant.

The international feed has been really messed up this year, for both men's and women's games. Trying to watch the game...paid for it...but ....:(.

...and livestats seems less reliable as well, but improving. Best bet is to just rely on Ralph, EHF, and Doc to provide something close to a play by play. No biases there of course.
