Minnesota State at Denver - The Round Up of the Landcows at Magness

du78

Gunning For 10
Now that we know Jesse is on the long road to recovery, we can now turn our attention to the DU series with the Mavs starting on Friday at Magness. Here are the DU Game Notes and the MSU Game Notes.

DU injury update
Senior forward Dustin Jackson (mononeucleosis) and freshman forward Nick Shore (wrist) are questionable this weekend, while sophomore defenseman Paul Phillips (nose) is probable. Sophomore goaltender Adam Murray (groin) returned to action on Nov. 6 after missing five games with a groin injury. Jackson has not played since 2008-09. He missed the 2009-10 season with a broken leg and has not played this season due to mononeucleosis. Shore's only appearance was the season opener at Vermont.

DU has an 11-game unbeaten streak against the Mavs at Magness and is 10-4-3 against them all time in Denver.

In additin to Rylan Galiardi, who is out indefinitely, Joe Schiller, Chase Grant and Zach Lehrke all were injured in Saturday's game. Haven't seen anything about their status.
Puckato may have an update tomorrow.

Update from Mike Chambers in the Denver Post on the DU injury situation.

1) Paul Phillips is cleared to play. Gwoz may play 7 D this weekend.

2) Nick Shore will get his cast off and may play this weekend.

3) Justin Jones has been academically cleared and started practicing with the team. DU is heavily recruiting his 17-year old brother.

4) Looks like Dusty Jackson will not play this weekend as he wasn't on Chambers list of returning players.

5) Sam Brittain will start in goal on Friday night.

With Paul Phillips back I expect to see 7 Dmen in the lineup tonight. Hopefully we will have both of the Shore brothers on the ice.

Puckato reports Captain Rylan Galiardi will be on the ice this weekend, but Chase Grant is out.

This is the start of a new part of the schedule for DU, where the Pioneers are facing some opponents who are not perennial NCAA teams. I expect DU will need to play the kind of hockey that will start building some confidence and wins. MSUM is a tough opponent for DU - they tend to skate with a physical edge and DU needs to fight through that with the finesse team that they are.

This would be a good time for a 4 point weekend!

Re: Minnesota State at Denver - The Round Up of the Landcows at Magness

Always nice to bag a win in game one of a home series, and coming up with a huge game winner is a good learning experience in a game where they handed MSUM two goals. Good teams know how to sweep at home which is something DU has not yet learned to do this year, so the next step in this team's maturation process needs to be a smart performance in game 2, and get some points.

Gwoz singled out Zucker for his 2 big hits to start the 3rd period.

Is it just me, or do we Denver fans all have some kind of man-crush on Zucker? That kid is an electrifying player who makes this happen with skills, speed, leadership and work-ethic. He's certainly the most exciting player here since Bozak, IMHO.

Budding superstar with no fear.

Great time for Makowski's first goal!

With Nick Shore's limited stick handling and shooting, wonder if "Danimal" Olszewski will get a chance to play tonight?
