Mid-season Transfers?

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

Three seasons? This says he played in only 1 game this year - maybe not enough game time?

Also, looks like Curry has ran out of jerseys - but has a lot of lucky #77's.

Said he has played(aka he has been on the team for the past 3 seasons) dident specify how many games he's played with us exactly, but he has played most of the time in previous seasons.

Thats a shocker he's gone to Utica fans, interesting move at this time especially, since we play Curry(our now rival from the past few seasons) our first game back from Christmas break january 7th.

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

I have been noticing there has been quite a lot of movement of players between teams in the east, the so called transfer move. When I see players like DeLong and Kavanagh who have preformed at a very high level leaving I take notice. I realize D3 players are free to move between teams but could someone explain the limitations on the receiving team as to soliciting/not soliciting players to join that team. The players going to a receiving team have to know they are welcome and are given a shot of playing in the starting lineup. Sort of like a cat and mouse game.

The whole transfer matter is a tricky one because any move could have a big effect on the roster players you already have. To me to bring 1 D1 defensemen to a team needing help on defense or a forward to a team lacking scores can be justified, however, you got to look at the wholesale importation of players mid-term. Thoughts?

basically, players are free to contact another coach at any time. As long as the athlete has initiated contact in regards to a possible transfer, the coach is then free to discuss it with the player. So these players most likely do have a definite guarantee from the coach of the school to which they are transferring, and as long as the coach didn't just call them out of the blue... it's definitely kosher with NCAA rules.

Do you know if D1 players are just as free to contact the coaches as D3 players are? I have always been under the impression that D3 coaches didn't have that much freedom in contacting other teams players?

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

as far as I know, a player is free to contact another teams coach to talk about transfering. a coach cannot contact a player about transfering unless the player he is talking to initiates the contact. but once the player has contacted said coach, I beleive that the coach can call/contact the player at anytime after that.

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

Div. III, a player can self-release and talk to any school in Div. III up to 30 days of the self-release. After the 30 days they must either transfer or stay where they were. During this time any coach who gets the self release can talk to that SA. Coaches cannot contact the SA unless they get a self-release from the student or a regular release from the school. Just because a student initiates the original contact does not matter. A release of some sorts has to occur.

Div. I, a player can only speak to a Div. III school if they get a transfer release from the school they are attending. There is NO self release in Div. I. Coaches or players cannot just contact eachother without a release taking place.

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

I heard that Scott Wentworth,Defensemen from Utica, Left and went to Curry. Anyone know if theirs any truth behind this?

He's still listed on Utica's Roster but at the same Time, Curry has him listed on their roster as well.

This would be a big move since he's been with Utica for 3 years and been a solid D-man for us the past three seasons.

....and oh yeah, our rival Curry plays our first game back from Christmas Break on January 7th. ;)

I thought he was already gone a while back.He hasn't gotten enough ice-time to be a factor for some time now.

So Curry is loaded..?Not too worried. If UC plays as well as they have recently, dressing 12-14 freshman, they should be fine...

It's gonna be a revenge-game,and I think UC will be ready.

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

Oswego's new goalie there did not impress me yesterday. i thought this kid was a division 1 goalie. he looked to be about on par with the average ACHA goalie.

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

also, thanks to whomever put this thread together because i was quite curious about the rules myself. i know wentworth left, not that utica can't do without him. because they can. but after seeing the oswego kid start in goal last night i really started to have questions.

He was an AHA goalie who wasn't getting enough time, so he transferred. I don't think that in general there is a real big gap between the AHA and DIII. If this was a goalie who was sitting a lot on an HEA, ECAC, CCHA, or WCHA team it might be different.

Doesn't RIT play in the AHA ;) I'm pretty sure it is their fault  :D

But he did not cramp up, did he? Be thankful for small things.

Nope he didn't cramp up but he looked really nervous with the idea of taking the first place teams hopes on his shoulders in his first game. He looked more comfortable in the warmups on Friday but you could have drove a semi through his blocker side.

Potter was a headcase but he was a very talented goalie. It's too bad he never got some help for his "cramps" because he would have had a monster year last year had he stuck around and got past the mental issues he had.

I think he his coming in next season with one season left to play. Surprised Amherst is taking him back.

QUOTE=ncaacdn;4968439]I am hearing that Amherst may be getting a mid season goalie transfer, this is not 100% verified however he may be a familiar face.

Also has anybody heard anything about some of the suspended Stout players transferring?[/QUOTE]

Re: Mid-season Transfers?

Not a transfer, but I see where Hamilton has just added goalie Joe Quattrocchi from the Drayton Valley Thunder. Coach Bazin responding to Calvin Bartel's decision not to return this year.
