Michigan Tech Hockey 2025-26: Time To Muck It Up

John J. MacInnes

Coach Emeritus
Bill Muckalt has gathered a seemingly talented bunch to play for the Huskies. Can he get them to gel and produce?

The Huskies will honor the 1975 NCAA Championship team on October 25th during the Saturday night game against Ferris State. Many of the players from that team are scheduled to attend, including names like:

Mike Zuke
Bob Lorimer
Jim Warden
Bill Steele
Bruce Horsch

This is the optimistic I have been about a new Tech hockey season in a long time. Kudos to Bill Muckalt and his staff for securing some key returns and some incredible recruits and transfers in such a short time. I think Bill's brand of hockey will make the Mac a really exciting place to experience college hockey!

I'm waiting to see what the style of play will be. I'm not expecting huge changes.

For those who are interested, Michigan radio is sponsoring a round table discussion on the effects of the house settlement and changes to college sports at the Arc in Ann Arbor sept 25. you have to register on line but you can attend by zoom if you like. a panel of experts will discuss. details at the michigan public web site.

Since the Huskies will be taking part in this, I thought I would post this over here.....

I was looking more seriously at the pundits' picks and many have St thomas winning or BG winning. So how is St Thomas going to replace all those lost goals? it's not going to magically appear. Everyone has their issues but this pick of ST first seems off to me.

Well my grades for the players and the game on night one. Overall a great game if you like pond hockey.

goaltending -F.... check the save %. He did get hung out to dry a few times but he should have had at least two of those goals.
Defense-- D-... not at all good. once in a while ok. but i counted 7 odd man rushes given up and i turned it off in the third. How you expect to beat anybody, let alone a skill team, playing like that.... is beyond me.
Forwards-C.. offensively solid, but .. turned the puck over a lot in the neutral zone, and decided not to back check. repeatedly.
Effort-- B. some guys were really solid. Max K in particular.

IDK. Yes some missed assignments on D, but I saw: puck control, establishing pace of the game, and patience at a level that I haven't seen in a long time. I was encouraged.

Getting the split is a great start against a top 10 team. Stopping one out of the first 4 shots not a good start. I would think somebody else will get a shot in net the next series. Penalty kill was great.
