Michigan State 2024-25

Did you follow the Spartans this weekend? That was a quality road sweep. Not easy to laser-focus like that with BC looming!

Looking forward to being back in Munn this weekend…the LSSU series helped shake the rust off with MSU playing 4 good periods. Friday will be BC’s first game and hopefully we can take advantage and get at least a split. Dorwart is expected to be back after sitting out last weekend with a minor injury.

Ready to get back Munn for sure. Would have liked the Windsor exhibition to be ahead of the BC game to give me a chance to acclimate to difficult games but oh well.

Went to the Friday game at Lake State. It was a little ragged, but the D looked solid. Basgall was the standout back there, Lukasevich got progressively better as the game went on. Howard and Russell had good chemistry even without Dorwart.

Spartan fans... BC guy in town for this weekends games. Planning on snagging standing room tix. Realistically speaking how early do I need to arrive to ensure that? Didn't come all this way to not make game!

And slightly off topic, any of y'all able to help me get to Ann Arbor after Sat game? I'm pacing Ann Arbor Marathon Sun morning and was planning on taking 2am MI Flyer bus... but due to road closures it is skipping AA! I don't drive and am now scrambling to find another option

Here's to some great hockey this weekend, and running too!

I haven’t seen them limit standing room ticket sales, but now that the place is sold out on a season ticket basis there is probably a limit. That said you should be ok if you get there at 5 pm on the east side when the doors open or I believe you can purchase at 4 when the ticket office should open.

As far as AA…not many good options for late Saturday. MIFlyer to Brighton and Uber from there might work.

A better option would be to hang out with other BC fans. Chances are some will start heading home after the game and could drop you off in AA.

As far as tickets go use the official MSU seat geek site for resale tickets. There are several reasonably priced. BC has a similar ticket exchange and there are almost always seats available especially on a holiday weekend like this one, so I would assume that would work using the MSU exchange. I second that second option :).

Overall, a great weekend from the guys. The opener was a bit of a dud but I don’t think we played poorly. Still, a better performance Saturday and a very exciting game. I think we’re in for another fantastic season. I’m loving the massive student section.

Gotta feel good for Stramel. Got a couple goals and it feels like he was winning faceoffs all night.

MSU didn't play poorly on Fri... but you came out with a whole new level of fire on Sat. Congrats on the win, and here's to round 3 in St. Louis!

I took Flyer to Brighton and Uber told me no rides available . It was a long walk in the cold rain... and not quick enough to make the marathon. Ouch

Props to Ryker Lee, who through 9 games is tied for top spot in scoring among USHL rookies.

Maybe it's a good thing to add that Lee and current Spartan RW Shane Vansaghi are listed as "B"-level skaters in NHL Central Scouting preliminary scouting list. MSU has 5 players/recruits on that board.

The win tonight was a statement of sorts when you look at the first two periods - against an undefeated OSO who put up a ton of goals last weekend. MSU got a little sloppy in their own zone in the 3rd, but thankfully Gucciardi cleaned things up with the ENG. State needs to be consistent for three periods tomorrow to earn the sweep.

The 3rd did get sloppy, but it largely felt like we were in control most of the game. OSU is not at the level of BC for sure, but they’re solid. A sweep would be well earned.

So, going into yet another bye week(minus exhibition), how are we feeling? I think this team’s got the juice for a frozen four, or better. We lost a couple big pieces from last year but a big improvement I’ve seen over last season’s team to this point is improved defense and goaltending. Augustine is more consistent and we are not as prone to giving up odd man rushes and breakaways, which was an issue last year.

It will still be difficult to beat out Minnesota and possibly even Michigan, but I think this team can accomplish great things.

I'm so giddy right now. On nights when we don't dominate, St. Augustine comes through and wins one. At times he is sneaky good; you have to rewind and look at it in slo-mo and know he's making NHL-level saves look almost routine. What else can I say - Vansaghi is becoming a force, and to see Dorwart starting to get rewarded as almost a bonus.

Best start since 2007-8 when they were 9-1 through 10 games.

The best start in school history came back in 1988-89 when MSU lost their first game at Lake State and then proceeded to win their next 19 until finally falling to North Dakota in the GLI semifinals.

Entirely possible that Michigan State is ranked #1 this week after Denver was swept and BC split over the weekend.

The last time the Spartans were atop the polls was October 22, 2001...two weeks after the Cold War game. (Not counting the postseason poll in 2007)

More than entirely possible….#1 in both polls. Should last at least another week with Lindenwood coming to Munn. The next two road series at Wisconsin and especially Minnesota should be the toughest tests since the BC series.
