Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

Brown hits the pipe right off the ensuing faceoff. If PC hadn't beaten Clemente but missed the net so many times, I'd be extremely upset right now.

Clement hoping for a good injury or about 7 more PC penalties.

Okay, off to Dodgeball... go PC...

If they blow this, I don't want to hear about it...

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

The Brown announcers now going on about the shot count, which says 26-9 PC.

Look, I know they are VERY biased ALWAYS, but that is definitely ridiculous. I've counted at least 10 shots this period alone.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

Who is biased? PC's shot counters, the Brown announcers or both?

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

Well, I was referring to the Brown announcers, but come to think of it...both. I've been to Schneider many-a-time, and the shot count, as recorded on the scoreboard, has never been remotely close to how the game seems to be flowing.

End of 2, 3-1 Providence.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

Brown gets a 2 minute reprieve with PC on the power play.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

This Coke Zero commercial is getting insufferable. I mean, it was terrible at first, but now it's both terrible and stale.

And besides, Coke Zero tastes absolutely nothing like real Coke.

In other soda news, the new Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash is simply delicious.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

GOAL Brown! Chris Zaires, an impressive freshman, gets the first goal of his career.

Apparently I missed a PC goal, though, so it is 4-2 in the 3rd now.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

Some good chances for Brown here in the 3rd, but we can't cash in.

It's currently a 4x4, but PC has a penalty upcoming, which will make it a 4x3 for 40 seconds. Brown announcers complaining that the PC net magically came off, and that there was no delay of game call.

4:37 left in the 3rd.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

BROWN PULLS ITS GOALIE?!!! WITH 4:37 LEFT?

3 good chances straight off the draw on the 5x3 with an empty net. The net AGAIN conveniently comes off for PC. "That's a Hockey East call!" says one Brown announcer, but he has a point, if his description is correct- a PC defender allegedly dove into the cage.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

The net comes off AGAIN. The goal light goes on after the play is whistled dead, even though the puck was loose. I'm starting to think the Brown announcers aren't just biased here; this sounds awful.

"The Hockey East refs doing their best impressions of ECAC referees."

I laughed at that.

Re: Mayor's Cup 2009: Brown/PC

...annnddd Brown falls just short. Nice comeback, but it wasn't enough. 4-3 the final in favor of Providence. They will retain the Mayor's Cup for the 3rd straight year.

Congrats to Jon and his Friar brethren (though I've never seen another PC fan on this board), even though it sounded like there was some aiding from the officials ;)

There are some positives for Brown:

It's just like I said after the Colgate game- last year, this game would have ended up a much larger deficit rather than a nail-biter. Against 'Gate, we made a 5-0 game into 5-3, and might have drawn closer if it weren't for some pretty dumb penalties late.

Tonight, we went down 3 early in the third, but responded adequately and just never gave up. Last year, the same situation presented itself countless times, but we folded and let the other team score 3 more goals before they took the foot off the gas. So we're definitely showing signs of life and of grit here early on, and I definitely think that will be important as we grow more confident and actually start winning some games.

But for now, congrats again to the Friars.
