Matthew Lopes Seizes the Moment

CV998

CAPE COD, MASS.
Congratulations to Matthew Lopes, Gustavus Adolphus goaltender 2008 - 2009, while playing in his first AHL game with the Manchester Monarchs... stopped 42 of 43 shots to earn his first pro win. Matthew signed with the Monarchs just hours before the game. Five minutes into the first period, starting goalie Jeff Zatkoff suffered an injury after letting in his second goal of the evening. Lopes stopped the first 35 shots he faced while the Monarchs scored four goals to get the win 4 - 3. This was a big win over the Lowell Devils considering the playoff implications.

Lopes was recognized as one of last nights three stars throughout the AHL. WWW.AHL.COM

After the game, Lopes was quick to point out, "this doesn't mean much... if I don't follow it up with a strong performance".

Once again, Congratulations to Matthew Lopes, Division III Gustavus Adolphus goalie!
