Mankato at Wisconsin, Friday

GB Puck Fan

It's A Great Day For Hockey
these teams are a combined 4-10-4 coming in. UW has just one win.

Mankato goal less than three minutes in. Margonari. (Apologies if spelled wrong).

Re: Mankato at Wisconsin, Friday

Mersch cleans up rebound to tie it at 1-1.

Now about 16 left in the first.

Re: Mankato at Wisconsin, Friday

god, UW can't make tape to tape passes, they have no clue what they're doing on the power play, this is just...ugh

Re: Mankato at Wisconsin, Friday

"ugh" is being generous...

true. This UW team is absolutely horrendous. They have 0 on-ice leadership, they have just 2 *maybe* 3 guys that can score and at this level you need 6-8 guys who can score, they have an average at best defense who cannot make good solid break-out passes, they play a trap because they have 8-9 grinders at forward who cannot score (see above) and at this point in the season I just don't see a reason for optimism. if they really think that 2 players can get them to the playoffs they're out of their minds (and by "They" I mean the coaches).

Re: Mankato at Wisconsin, Friday

Ryan Little forces a turnover in front of the net and scores. 2-2, with about 8 left

Wow, talk about red goggles. They have 10 grinders who can't score.

alright alright burd don't rub it in!

but seriously it is embarrassing, absolutely embarrassing. it's been 19 years now since UW has been a power (meaning a year in and year out contender for conference and national hardware)

I'm not exactly sure exactly what happened back in 1992 (honestly don't really care), but I do know it angered some hockey Deity who holds one hell of a grudge.

This is just not a good team is many, many different ways.

I've got the 92 title game on dvd, and of course watched it live at the time.

the dramatic meltdown by UW players on the ice and then after the game going after officials in the hallways demonstrated a complete break-down and lack of class by the guys doing it and the coaching staff no longer had control of the team. add to that the fact Grant Standbrook was no longer @ UW to help recruiting. Opposing coaches used the meltdown against UW and it worked.

Sauer still knew how and where to find the talent, guys like Brian Holzinger, Matt Pettinger and many more just started to choose other schools (Cullen and Parish went to St.Cloud, in years past they'd end up in Madison)...
Sauer never regained that recruiting touch and Eaves is going right down the same exact path at this point
