Not making the hockey east playoffs this year is not surprising given Head Coach Richard Reichenbach record past four years 2013-2014 overall .297, 2014-2015 overall .348, 2015-2016 overall .314, 2016-2017 overall .325. Time for the University of Maine's Athletics department to clean house with this coaching staff. Start fresh for the 2017-2018 season stop the embarrassment.

LOL, good luck pal. Maine has never been seriously committed to this program. That's not going to change anytime soon no matter who the coach is.

You are probably right. Maine was beginning to turn the corner under the previous coach until she ran into NCAA rules violations. Maine has had no financial commitment to its coaches or program for many years. Until they do the program will continue to be mediocre and will make the HE playoffs occasionally. The team does recruit a little talent but not nearly enough.

The obstacle appears to be not being able to recruit enough depth for any given year or two. Maine is a difficult place to recruit, but it really shouldn't be any different then Vermont.
they only have 3 less wins than UCONN & UVM, 1 less than Merrimack. They beat BC, BU & Northeastern. Their leading scorer is a Freshman thus program might be on the up. Maine is not an easy place to recruit to.

Bangor vs Burlington for culture, beauty, accessibility. In my opinion, Burlington wins hands down, no contest.

You certainly are entitled to your opinion. I like Burlington as well. Bangor has the ocean 35 miles away and that is a huge draw for many people. Bangor has more culture than you may think. The new Cross insurance Center, Penobscot Theater, Maine Center for the Arts (Orono) and a wonderful water front on the Penobscot River. Both teams have to take long bus rides to away games.

I've spent extensive time in both areas (and traveled much of the country for business and pleasure). There are few small cities in the US with the scenery, activities, culture, economics, and attractions for young adults that Burlington has. It isn't that Bangor is bad, just that Burlington is without a doubt one of the small city gems in the US. I know few, if any, female hockey players or parents that would prefer Bangor to Burlington. And the NAHA tourney and showcases highlight Burlington to women's players - what comparable recruiting vehicle does Maine have?
Long term, Maine needs to develop women's hockey in the state so that they can develop and attract high quality players that want to stay local. For years, the Maine youth hockey association (whatever they are called) crapped all over women's hockey and refused to do anything to promote the sport - they in fact went to great lengths to PREVENT its development. The few high quality Maine female players that developed playing boys hockey (Strabley, Violette, etc.) generally went south to NH, MA, or CT to prep school and club hockey and never even considered returning to Maine. For goodness sake, Katherine Pate grew up in southern ME (Biddeford?), went to Assabet and Westminster and ended up at UVM as a scholly player!!! That's just embarrassing for U Maine. You could argue whether she is a good D1 player or not, but she certainly would have helped U Maine.

Hockey is one of the important sport games and lack of promotion is the main reason for the failure. There are so many well talented hockey players around us. My opinion school authorities give more importance to it to develop best players from childhood itself.

Know players past and present who wont give a thumbs up to attend this program which affects recruiting in our area. Its not the only school. Very easy in this day and age to get information from players in a program to help in decision making. Coaches have to be more in tune with their teams.
