M&W Polls

Still very, very sad that college hockey/USCHO still is allowed to NOT have and EQUAL number of men's and women's teams in their weekly polls while all other NCAA sports have EQUAL numbers of M&W listed in their polls. This is WRONG for equity and WRONG for the marketing of two great men's and women's sports, especially in the regions that sponsor ice hockey! Sorry to be a pain in he A-- on this but this is WRONG, very, very WRONG. USCHO would generate many, many more "views". Also College D-I M&W Ice Hockey is the "only" NCAA sports that does NOT post a National poll for 25 teams!

OK. So how many teams in each and how many participate at the varsity level? I thought the only reason they ranked 20 for the men was because 15 was awkward

In my best John McEnroe impersonation "you can not be serious" with this outrage

The idea of even having a poll in college hockey when all that matters is the PWR is so outdated. At least in college football the pollsters still matter when they do their CFP rankings.

Beyond the histrionic outrage, this is the flat-out incorrect "statement of fact" that I take the most issue with. In just a few minutes looking through the NCAA's site, I found many exceptions to this:

Baseball has three different polls - USA Today, Collegiate Baseball, and NCBWA - that rank 25, 30, and 30 teams respectively.
Cross Country (USTFCCCA Coaches) ranks 30 Men's teams and 30 Women's teams.
Fencing (USFCA) ranks 11 Men's teams and 15 Women's teams.
Field Hockey (NFHCA Coaches) ranks 20 Women's teams.
Lacrosse has two polls. The USILA ranks 20 Men's teams and has no Women's poll, Inside Lacrosse ranks 20 Men's teams and 25 Women's teams.
Volleyball (AVCA) ranks 15 Men's teams, 25 Women's teams, and 20 Women's Beach teams.
Water Polo has two polls. The ACWPC ranks 20 Men's teams and has no Women's poll, the CWPA ranks 20 Men's teams and 25 Women's teams.
Bowling, Rifle, and Rowing all have coed team polls, and rank 25, 20, and 20 teams respectively.
Gymnastics and Skiing have no team polls at all.

That's about half of the sports the NCAA sponsors that don't have "a National poll for 25 teams."

Maybe I'm slow but, like others on this thread, I'm just not seeing any injustice. Especially considering that women's hockey numbers 20 fewer teams than does men's hockey. If anything, the women are overrepresented (34%) in the weekly polls as compared with 31% of the men's teams. And more important, the only polls that have any real meaning are the PWRs (one for each), that ranks all teams, are entirely data-driven, and don't involve subjective voting.

There are so many things in this world that merit outrage, but this isn't one of them.

34% of women’s teams are in their poll.
31% of men’s teams are in their poll.

seems logical

Sad, Sad, that the "boys" of USCHO DO Not want to be equitable and promote women's ice hockey. Last count there are 44 WHOK Teams. This is about promoting a sport that many universities invest thousands of $$$ Sorry USCHO and its followers continue to discriminate against the growth of women!

How many teams post "only 15" teams!

You are only using raw numbers to make your point.
15 teams in the Women's poll, 20 teams in the Men's poll. 44 WHOK teams, 64 MHOK teams.

Bruinsfan11 pointed out that by %, the women have more in the poll than the men.
Apparently, Jack doesn't understand math very well. 15/44 = 34%. 20/64 = 31%. 34% is greater than 31%

And as J.D. pointed out the only "poll" that matters is the PWR. And USCHO always has the updated (to the minute) Pairwise for both men and women.

Again, sad the "boys" at USCHO only care about discriminating against the women! Would be great for BOTH exposure of M&W Ice Hockey that we add more to the polls. BTW we have another university adding WHOK: https://bluehens.com/news/2023/12/1...ens-ice-hockey-joining-college-hockey-america
