Louis CK - now this is how you defeat torrent sites!

Re: Louis CK - now this is how you defeat torrent sites!

Please. People, especially our generation, are whiny *******s. Many will still want it free, and they'll still download Pirated copies of it, and they'll still make tons of whiny ******* excuses for it, just like they've done with music for the last 11 years.

I wouldn't read into his success with the Beacon Theater* any more than I would all of the best selling albums of 2001.

* Although I do love Louis CK and am glad that it is paying off for him.

you may be right but 200,000 @ $5 I think is a pretty significant dent. though I don't know how many people have gotten this free in the same timeframe

You will never stop piracy, it is just too prevalent. Hell I do it, though usually on stuff I have already bought but now prefer a digital copy of like movies and music.

Once you accept that fact you can move forward. Stuff like this, or bands having exclusive downloads for people who buy their albums or songs on the web is the best way to capitalize on the web and make money. It wont stop all of the piracy, but it might stop some people from ding it and that is like found money.

That I can understand. It makes a lot more sense than the people who complain about $20 CDs as if Sam Goody stores in the mall were the only places to legally buy music.

I bought it because it was five bucks and I know he actually gets the money. Great move by him

When I was younger (pre Itunes and Amazon Music) it was a different story. Doesnt make what I did right (and I never pretended it did) but the music industry set itself back by trying to stop the piracy instead of embracing the technology.

you're 100% spot on there.

I deal a bit in the music industry and it's insane how slow to react some have been and still are, while on the other side of it, I have many musician friends who haven't purchased a physical LP or cd in years...which I find depressing as hell but I guess that's off the subject.

to the poster below re: $5 and the $ going direct to Louis, I'd guess you're right on there. You say it's $5 (like a Fugazi show) and then explain where the money ends up and the cost to put it together and it seems like a no-brainer in 2 weeks of hindsight;)
