Lethbridge at Denver - Sunday 10/3/10

Re: Lethbridge at Denver - Sunday 10/3/10

Funny.

DU beats a 18 and under team by 7 last night and I hear lots of fans walking out of Magenss last night talking about winning lots of games ( ie. Mcnaughton cup etc.). Tonight a loss to a mediocre JuCo - I was not there to hear the talk but I wonder what is being said...

My take

Brittain looked nervous and had trouble holding onto the puck. First game is now under his belt. Murray was much calmer last night and showed more of a veteran goalie presence. The defense abandoned Brittain on the 3rd goal.

Defense had 2 players who probably won't see much ice time during the regular season. Wrenn did not dress this weekend. Defense is better than it played tonight.

Offense did not pass well tonight and seemed a step slow. Too many players were trying to do it on their own as opposed to attacking as a a team. Veterans Dusty Jackson and Chris Knowlton did not play this weekend due to illness and injury. Some of the forwards that played this weekend will be out of the line-up when they are back. The recruited freshman forwards showed they have a lot of talent, they just need some experience to be consistent.

I was at the game. Brittain played like a terrified 18 year old freshman and St. Goddard (the Lethbridge goalie) played like the 25 year old he is. That was that,

DU is not going to score many goals this year, so the goaltending needs to be good, and tonght it just wasn't.

When you outshoot a team by about a 2-1 margin and still lose by 3, it's the goalie, folks.

Reminded me of Murray's first game, Chevy's first game, Fisher's first game. All were awful, and they turned out ok.

Not to rub it in any more than I have to, but last night with CC playing Lethbridge, we opened the season starting our new freshman goalie...

Thorimbert is not even 18 yet, and he shutout Lethbridge for 2 periods.

Now, I do understand that CC held Lethbridge to 1 or 2 shots in the first period of last nights game. Still, I think your young goalie is going to have a long long season.
