Lake Forest To Go Club

All good points points had by all but as the old saying goes...no money, no funny, they couldn't compete in the NCHA and now can't compete in the MCHA, it all comes down to money, if they loved hockey and it mattered they would have never left the biggest, best league in the nation, they are a great school but hockey is secondary, not the first school and won't be the last.

Re: Lake forest going club

You shouldn't have expected them to be very good, but they are not that bad. Just make small mistakes that cost them games...Coach McKelvie will be able to prove himself for the 2012-13 season with recruiting...It dosent make sense why they would hire such a high caliber coach if the program is going to fold soon. I imagine they will improve next year with the new coach and stronger recruiting efforts. You have to remember that the new coach did not recruit these prep kids, and has very strond jr and D1 ties.

I agree with this, short-term competitiveness is not reason enough to cut a program. Any school that has had three coaches in three years is going to struggle for a bit. They have also played more than their share of one-goal games this season. I know that McKelvie is a well regarded coach.

It strikes me as odd that a school with its own rink would think about cutting its program after sponsoring hockey for such a long time. Maybe the rink has seen better days, but it is still an on-campus facility saving the school money in terms of ice time. At one point they even had their own JV program. Hockey must have been a meaningful draw in terms of admissions for the school. Even now hockey is drawing/keeping thirty students at the school.

It doesn't really add up in my book, but I am sure that there is a lot that I don't know about what has been going there.

Re: Lake forest going club

This year they decided to stop the JV team due to there being no teams in the area with to compete with. LF mainly left the NCHA due to all the games being 5+ hour road trips. Was not god for the school or team. If you have watched hem this year, they are not as bad as there record indicates. They have a strong women's team, which makes even more sense to keep the mens, since someone would probably want to form another NCAA team in 10 years if they closed it now. They have an on campus rink, and beautiful new locker rooms for the team they put in this year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/69008642@N02/6277104519/in/photostream. It is common for the AD and coach to review a team after his first year, and see what needs to be done. The ACHA thing makes sense with the struggling program, as it did not come out of left field, but does not make sense iwht what has been going on in LF Hockey. (New coach, rink renovations, etc) Also, USCHO has made some articles about them, and all indicators from those show that they are trying to rebuild the program. I do not know lots about the team, but know that some kids did not like Fritz, some did not like the new coach, and some do not like McKelvie now, I would imagine. With new coaches, turnover will be a problem. McKelvie will put an end to that.

I saw them in their game against Trinity in Hartford over the holidays. It was a very competitive game and I was impressed with their team speed and control. They also may have had more fans than Trinity that day. It seems to me like they are a lot closer to being good than being a team not worth keeping. For the sake of the sport I hope their program will continue.

Why did they leave the WCHA?? ;)

Why did they leave the WCHA?? ;)

I don't know when they left the WHCA, but they were never members of the SUNYAC, so TO THE POINT is mistaken. Though older Plattsburgh alumni would certainly remember going TO THE POINT ;)
