Kneeling Opinions

What an interesting meta-question! What are people's opinions about other people expressing opinions? I love it! (is my opinion about someone asking people's opinion about others expressing opinions)

Back to your cave, Mr. Troll. If you wish to stir the pot, go to the Victory Press and start a dialogue with one of the excellent writers there. Women's college hockey is what this site is about.

It use to bother me. I do understand what the kneeling is about. After a few years I am back to focusing on the flag.

UNH… 4 players kneeling during the National Anthem. 3 Canadiens, 1 American. 1,10, 18, 35. Not sure what they are protesting. I’d rather see them take a knee after the anthem and have a moment of silence for whatever they are upset about.

Before the National Anthem, there was a moment of silence for a NH police officer killed in the line of duty. Everyone was silent. And when I walked around the rink at intermission, I couldn’t help but notice the men’s hockey program history and missing team pictures for 3 years when there was no hockey (‘43-‘45) as the young men on campus set off to fight for our freedom. The playing of our National Anthem is to celebrate our freedom and to honor those who served and those who died to preserve our freedom.

I personally have no respect for those selfish individuals and none for a coach or program that would allow something like this. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to post the picture.

I would rather see them quietly taking a knee than fidgeting and skating in place, looking all around, and even chatting for the entirety of the Anthem. Taking a knee while remaining still, undistracted, and facing the flag is far less disrespectful to watch for me. I would like to know what their personal reasons are, but no matter the answer, it will fall under the dual umbrella of "freedom of 'speech' and expression" and "none of my business." We are generations apart, and I am sure some of the actions I took in the name of becoming a young, independent adult horrified prior generations who did not understand my perspective. I can probably horrify myself if I take a trip in the way back machine.

Did you notice during your travels that there are no headshots on the team wall for this year (or last for that matter, but hey, that was 2020)? That sends a bigger message in my mind, because at least I can conjure up various reasons for these young adults of distinctly different backgrounds taking a knee. Why, 8 games into the season the traditional headshots are not up, I can't imagine.

I don't for a second think their actions have any thing to do with the Flag, the Anthem, or the men and women who have sacrificed for our freedom. They are simply taking an alternative stand.

Perhaps you guys should take your own advice and be silent about your protest against those that kneel.. But my guess is.. you think what you think matters more than what others think.. hence why they kneel...

"Power 5" football games have the teams stay in the locker rooms until after the anthem has been played, and nobody seems to mind or care or ever say anything about it. Maybe other sports should do likewise, if it would stop the complaining (but it probably wouldn't).

That seems like an updated version of burying your head in the sand...

It isn't a reaction to... anything. College football teams have been in the locker room during the anthem for as long as I can remember (and I'm getting old). And nobody seems to notice or complain, etc.
