Nothing wrong with trying to get ahead!Just thought I'd get ahead start.
Per the NCAA recruiting calendar, July 7th is the date on which D-I women's ice hockey coaches can begin making phone calls to HS juniors. What do you mean by let the phone calls begin?
Is July 7th really that significant? I would think if a school was interested in a player, the player would know by now. If they don't contact you on the 7th (and they have previously) does this mean they are no longer interested? Can someone with some experience with this process shed some light on it for those of us who are confused by it all?

In terms of this board, it is significant in that we often see news of a number of verbals soon after the "phone calls" date.I don't think it is really that significant...

Yes, those who presumably just completed their junior year in HS. While I don't disagree with how you categorize them, juniors is how the NCAA listed them.HS Juniors? Do you mean those entering their senior year in the fall?

Some definitely do. IMO, I think it is wise to do so, because the student can then make many of her decisions at her own pace before the schools start up their process and it can seem like a whirlwind. It gives the player time to rank schools and think on the choice for a while before needing to commit to anything. Is it customary for parents/players (sophomore/junior age) to initiate contact with college coaches?
