Jeff Jackson Retiring!

I'm a little bit late posting this as the news is about a week old but Jeff Jackson announced he's retiring from Notre Dame at the end of the season.
I wonder if they'll elevate Paul Pooley into the head coach position? Paul's been there a long time.

I always associate him with his LSSU days. In the early 90s whenever you saw that Anchor coming out of the tunnel you knew you were up against it

So will he probably hire his own staff and Pooley will be gone? Does anyone know why Paul wasn't named as Jackson's successor?
Not necessarily. Sometimes assistants will stay on for years under different HC's.

Good example would be Tom Newton who was an MSU assistant for about 25 seasons under 3 different Head Coaches. (Mason, Comley, Anastos). Pooley been around for a longtime in NCAA circles so Sheahan would be wise to utilize that experience if in fact Pooley wishes to stay since he's 60-something himself now.

As for the Why? Maybe ND Administration thinking long-term and like I touched on a moment ago Pooley up there in age.

It’s hard to believe he never reached the top of the mountain at Notre Dame. He was so close so many times.

In a way it makes it even more special what he did at Lake State. All he did was win and I’m fortunate I got to see him in his prime there. Truly a legend and a good man, too.
