Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

Let's just wait and see if nesn has same restriction. Maybe FSN north went on the cheap and didn't pay enough for national coverage

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

An official "cram it" to ESPN for this. Those of us rural without cable (and thus ESPN3 access) got hosed. We purchase the sports tier package from DTV, and unfortunately ESPN blocked that today. We've enjoyed watching Minny, Sconnie, and UND games on the regional tier all season (along with the local/regional CCHA games on FS Detroit), today the scumbags at ESPN played scrooge for hockey fans. (Of course, they will accommodate their east-of-Hudson fan base by showing the Boston games on their network...) Not really much of a "national" network, they always play provincial to the NE when they can.

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

The day when this network loses the rights to televise the games can't come soon enough. Year after year, their interest level drops -- moving more content to ESPNU and the online ESPN3 -- but this blackout of those of us "outside the FSN North footprint" is the ultimate slap in the face.

Jeers indeed!

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

Don't be so hasty to blame ESPN for this. FSN north may be to blame still

Or blame your ISP for not carrying espn3

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

Every year this happens and every year ESPN doesn't care. Call them, they'll tell you as much.

Uh, no. FSNN can only show the game in the 5 state area. ESPN's decision.

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

Be like me and figure out a way to weasel your way into ESPN3 since your ISP, like ESPN, sucks and doesn't care.

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

We shall see if nesn has the same footprint restriction. Or if this was an FSN north cop out

My guess (hope) is that they don't. Altitude was able to broadcast in Indiana. ESPN hates FOX Sports. They probably don't hate the stand alone regional networks in the same fashion.

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

I really don't think ESPN would discriminate like that. Is nesn doesn't have the restriction. Then I think it's a FSN north cop out

ESPN are the ones moving the NCAA selection show and one of the Frozen Four semis to ESPNU. They're the network moving the finals off ESPN to ESPN2 for the first time in decades. They're the ones moving more and more content to ESPN3, which, no matter how good it looks, doesn't approximate an actual HD television feed. Put it all together and the big picture is this tournament is becoming even less important than it was before to them. The coverage is being reduced, harder to find, and now we've got blackouts. This is a good thing?

Why blame someone else? They gobble up all the NCAA rights in order to get their hands on the money generating sports, then spit all over it like today when they don't give two ****s about enabling people like dish consumers who are the only ones who actually WANT to see these games!

I get they don't care, that their ratings for the hockey are so miniscule they could care less -- most of us realize that. But why make it harder for loyal die-hard fans by blacking out FSN North? This, right here today, is the real reason why people hate them so much.

Blame the nba lockout for one of the semis on espnu
Blame the change of regular season baseball scheduling for the finals switch to the duece

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

That being said,I long for the days where every regional game was syndicated without restrictions or pre emptions

There's NBA basketball on a Thursday afternoon?
And the Selection Show? Is that the NBA or major league baseball that's to blame?

LOL.

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

The espnu semifinal game is the evening semi

Selection show is a very valid point you bring up. Couldn't agree more

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

Personally I don't see much of a difference between ESPN and the duece. But you are right about steps down from duece to U. Or to espn3

Re: Jeers to espn for blocking the games on directv

It's early round Masters coverage and MLB opening day combining to boot hockey down the line. If anyone wants to argue why hockey should be on over either of those without resorting to an emotional argument, feel free.
