ISO: Advice from Mets/Yankees Fans

Gibber

Little Boxes
Hey gang. Just realized that next April the Mets and Yankees both play at home at different times (its the only day of the season that I could find on the skeds) with the mets at 1:10 and the Yanks at 7:05. Tickets on StubHub are wicked cheap (under $5 for infield upper decks), so we're planning on heading down. The plan is to take the train in from Brewster (my family lives in Danbury, CT, right across the border). I'm wondering how easy it is to get from there to Citi Field, Yankee Stadium then back there after the gamee.

It's very easy to get to Citi Field, a little harder to get from Citi Field to Yankee Stadium, and you won't have to worry about returning from Yankee Stadium since you will have been murdered by either the fans or the locals.

I'm assuming you would be taking metro north in? If so, take that to Grand Central, where you would hop on the 7 train over to Citi Field area. On the way up to Yankee Stadium, you would do the opposite, 7 train to Grand Central, to the 4 train up to Yankee Stadium. Metro north has a station right at Yankee Stadium now for heading back up north. I haven't done it, but it should be quite easy to do.

Yeah, MetroNorth from Brewster. Looks like it shouldn't be too complicated. Its been a LONG time since I've taken the subway in NYC (I've taken the MetroNorth a few times to get to MSG, but not the subway).

It does look like its pretty simple after looking at the MTA website... Just gotta figure out the fare thing (I'm assuming I have to get a prepaid card type thing

Yep, there should definitely be machines in Grand Central to get a metrocard for the subway. It's $2.25 each way, including a subway to bus transfer within 2 hours of the last swipe, so you would just need a $5 card or so. I can't imagine you would be the only person going from Grand Central to CitiSheaFieldStadium, but things are pretty well marked in Grand Central anyways, although it is a fairly large building.

Re: ISO: Advice from Mets/Yankees Fans

Ahhh as it turns out, I won't be going down to the games afterall. Work lured me in for the night for a full (well paying) shift and I can't justify it. Next year!

Anyone want 2 free tickets to either the Mets/Rockies (1:10) or Yankees/Orioles (7:05) game on Thursday? They're infield upper decks and I can email them to you if you email me at josh.gibney@gmail.com
cheers!

Re: ISO: Advice from Mets/Yankees Fans

I'd love to take the free yanks tix, but I've already got mine for Thursday. Wish things could have worked out for you!

Thanks, me too! I'll get down there some time (maybe later in the season, but it would have been cool to do the double header thing :) )

Is there no other dates that they have an early pm/late pm combo? I would think that with 150 games left, there would be a date that things would play out that way. It really is super easy to pull it off though using metro north and the subway.

they're only home on the same days a few times and the only other possibility is late in the season, the Yanks have a TBA time listed for a Sox game that could be a night game and the Mets have a day game that same day..

Ah, ya I would bet that turns into a night game then, assuming all things happen as planned. Kinda surprised that they are only home a few times together though... over an 162 game schedule you would think there would be more overlap.

I think in NY and Chicago (and possibly Oak/SF) they try to schedule the teams at home at different times for the most part (Can't remember if there are other pairings like that, I think Wash/Balt too, but I'm not positive)
