Investigations: 3 more I's than "Impeachment," so no wonder Trump is involved!

Investigations: 3 more I's than "Impeachment," so no wonder Trump is involved!

A fun thread for collecting all the investigations surrounding 45 culminating in either articles of impeachment or nothing, depending on the midterms.

And we begin with a genuinely w-t-f disclosure.

In the midst of the 2016 presidential primary season, the FBI received what was described as a Russian intelligence document claiming a tacit understanding between the Clinton campaign and the Justice Department over the inquiry into whether she intentionally revealed classified information through her use of a private email server.

The Russian document cited a supposed email describing how then-Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch had privately assured someone in the Clinton campaign that the email investigation would not push too deeply into the matter. If true, the revelation of such an understanding would have undermined the integrity of the FBI’s investigation.

Current and former officials have said that Comey relied on the document in making his July decision to announce on his own, without Justice Department involvement, that the investigation was over. That public announcement — in which he criticized Clinton and made extensive comments about the evidence — set in motion a chain of other FBI moves that Democrats now say helped Trump win the presidential election.

But according to the FBI’s own assessment, the document was bad intelligence — and according to people familiar with its contents, possibly even a fake sent to confuse the bureau. The Americans mentioned in the Russian document insist they do not know each other, do not speak to each other and never had any conversations remotely like the ones described in the document. Investigators have long doubted its veracity, and by August the FBI had concluded it was unreliable.

So, the document that Comey used to decide to suspend the investigation of Clinton was possibly itself a fake planted by the Russians. This plays into the theory that the Russians knew all along Trump could never win so their aim was not so much to help him as to spread chaos and distrust of American intel agencies. Trump actually winning was just an enormous (Russian Orthodox) Christmas present.

67. The magic number is 67.

If you can't get 67 Senators to agree that the accused is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors, forget it and start working on 2018 and 2020.

I posted about that fake email yesterday. Glad you put it here, Kep. People need to read about that more than once. In my mind it shows in clear detail how the Russians DID effect the vote in November by manipulating the FBI.

As long as they've disconnected The Button (which hopefully they did on January 21) I am quite content to just allow the "I" word to waft through the air for the next 3.5 years. Let the GOP destroy themselves going to the wall for this guy, the paragon of Republicanism and the reductio ad absurdum of conservative ideology.

Believe me, if he is defanged so he can't hurt innocent people, nothing would be sweeter than to have that face emblazoned as the symbol of the GOP for the next 2, 4, heck 100 years. Replace the elephant. You have found the perfect embodiment of your ideas. :p

Sorry, though, I missed that and didn't mean to step on your post.

Trump won't be impeached by GOP House, but that's the point. If we uncover more abuses of power for example (a charge easier to prove IMHO since, you know, Trump has come out and admitted it:eek:) the Dems should explicitly run on this issue in 2018. Not that you will impeach him, but that you're willing to while a GOP majority will sweep everything under the rug. Then if you take over the House I would impeach him, subject to the proper evidence of course, and let the GOP swing. Either you acquit him of treason and abuse of power charges simply because he's a member of your party and then face the wrath of the voters or you vote to boot his sorry arse and get Trump voting loons chasing you around.

It depends on whether he's still popular with that base. Reagan got away with treason scot-free because his supporters thought real life was a B movie western. But if Trump's base has turned on him because he, you know, has ruined their lives, then the message will resonate.

tl; dr: The majority of voters are tribal, not rational. Facts don't matter, only emotional images. Think of how cars and beer are sold. That's how your neighbors think.
