I need a new broswer

Eagles

Seguin!
After months of putting up with Firefox I can no longer use it. I love the browser and its customizable options but it hangs and freezes way too much. I feel like I am constantly restarting the browser because it is unable to load a page. Going on ESPN.com or Facebook is a disaster. I feel I've tried every little trick I couldnt find to make it work better but nothing has helped.

So I am left with having to change to a new broswer. IE works great in my compute but I'm not a big fan of it. Should I give Google Chrome a try?

Worked with a loved Chrome at my last job (ended in April '09). It's not compatible with a few webpages here at the new place (namely, Federal Court filing webpages), so I don't use it here. When I was using it, there wasn't much in the way of add-ons, but there was talk that those were coming.

Edit - Chrome thread

Re: I need a new broswer

Chrome is nice, I love its speed. It's super lightweight, for better or worse. If you don't want FF or IE, Chrome is the next best option.

Re: I need a new broswer

Back in my Windows daze, I had very good experiences with Opera. I can't speak to Chrome for Windows or Macs, but I don't know many tech-types who use it as their primary browser.

Based on the problems you've described it's obvious that your problem is somewhere other then your browser.

Re: I need a new broswer

Use and love chrome. Minimalistic toolbars (maximum browsing area), speed, and for the vast majority of sites it is compatible.

Re: I need a new broswer

Don't blame Firefox for the fact that those sites suck.

No, see, having flashy animated video stuff that randomly pops up and covers websites is what's really important, not having easily accessible content or anything. It needs to be all glitz and shine and explosions. Michael Bay should develop every website.

Most likely, but I've tried just about everything and nothing has worked. About a year ago I updated to the newer version of FF and thats when things got bad. I've put up with it till now, its starting to drive me crazy.

I gotta say that I really like Chrome. Its very fast and minimalistic which is nice. Any add-ons people recommend?

I'm pretty sure there have been at least 2 new versions of firefox in the past year, so that may be part of your problem.

Re: I need a new broswer

Firefox rules. IE is obviously garbage. I've had dalliances with Opera, Chrome and Safari, but I always come back home to FF.

BTW, I have no performance problems with FF at all. What are you running? This post brought to you by Firefox/3.0.14 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729).

Why aren't you on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) ?

Correct. The current version of Firefox is 3.5.3.

Also, what operating system are you using? Is the operating system updated to the most current updates? How much memory do you have? Are the Firefox add-ons and plug-ins all up to date? Are you running unnecessary add-ons? Do you have a quality anti-virus software and is it working properly?

And finally, as great as Firefox is, it is a resource hog. If your computer is too out of date, doesn't have enough memory, or doesn't have enough free hard drive space (for cache, virtual memory, etc.) then Firefox will not operate correctly through no fault of the program itself.

Re: I need a new broswer

Ive updated to all of the new Firefox's when available. I even downloaded the newest version on Saturday. I have an HP laptop thats about 18 months old with Vista. All of the add-ons I have for Firefox are: No-script, Ad-block, Favicon picker, and URL fixer. Even when turning them off FF still doesn't run right.

As I said before, FF was great until I installed the new update about a year ago. It wasnt a gradual decline, it was noticeable right after I downloaded the newer version.

I like FF alot, especially Ad-block, but I just cant get it work right, thats why I made the switch to Chome.
