How Long 'Till the Snow Flies?...MSU-Mankato at Tech, 10/16/2010

FadeToBlack&Gold

Microlot Marxist
Vermont/Upstate NY have seen their first snow, so Houghton can't be far behind, right? ;)

Tech plays their fifth game in eight days. If we're tired and/or sloppy when playing 5x5, this is probably the end of the line for the unbeaten streak. Coach Russell was not happy with our even-strength effort through the first 40 minutes last night, citing too many turnovers and odd-man rushes, but hockey's most dangerous lead apparently let us settle things down in the third. Troy Jutting was purple in the face for most of the game, holding at least two or three animated discussions with the stripes, so it'll be interesting to see how the officiating goes tonight.

Dirk and Randy agreeing that the Huskies need to be better at even strength tonight.

Genoe was very good, maybe wanted the second Mankato goal back. Mentioned the unbelievable 2-on-1 save.

Josh Robinson will get the start in net tonight. I would assume Austin Lee for Mankato.

Russell Pre-Game:

-Last night - some good things and some bad things
-Very unhappy with the number of turnovers, too many odd-man rushes
-Bad puck management, did not play within systems the first 40 minutes

-Special teams were good
-Mankato PK is aggressive, and forced us into even more turnovers

-Schooley back in the lineup tonight, has to be better than he was on Tuesday
-MacLeod will slide over to center on the third line.

-4th line was great - physical, responsible, and chipped in offensively
-McCadden's success on faceoffs a big part of it, he's improving each game despite injuries over the summer

-Have to box out Mankato and outnumber down low to stop the cycle

ok. I'll come right out and say it. I'll be very disappointed if we lose tonight. I like being undefeated. I want it to stay.

Dennis Rix:

-Excited to get his first goal as a Husky
-Working well with McCadden and Lickteig
-Just trying to work hard, get pucks deep, put some shots on

-Big jump in speed from juniors to WCHA
-No nights off

-Getting more comfortable with each game

LICKTEIG!!!

1-0 Tech

Sova with a big shot for the rebound on a 2-on-1, Lickteig buries it.

Tech liquor break after blowing up Kurt Davis.

Gordic for an elbow. Sounds like "Pronger Physics" came into play there.

Sounds like MacLeod losing all that baby fat paid off. Picked the d-man's pocket and rushed in 1-on-1.
