Hood College in Frederick, MD announced last week that they were adding a women's ice hockey team. Hood is a full-time member of the multi-sport conference MAC, whose hockey teams play in the single-sport UCHC. With a seventh women's ice hockey team, the MAC could break away into their own conference and qualify for an automatic bid into the DIII national tournament.
MAC members playing women's hockey would be:
- Alvernia
- Arcadia
- Hood
- King's
- Lebanon Valley
- Stevenson
- Wilkes
Hood, a women's college before going co-ed in 1970, does not currently or plan to offer men's hockey
Without the MAC or Utica, who is elevating to DII and will compete for the DI championship, the UCHC would be left with:
- Chatham
- Nazareth
- Manhattanville
- Neumann
The UCHC could probably pick up independent Hilbert given their geographic proximity to Nazareth. They would need one or two more to retain their autobid.
